This beauty chick finds it time-consuming to run one blog. So I'm doubly impressed by the talents of Carleen Pruess Coulter, who runs a staggering two! First up: Girl Gloss -- which feeds not only Carleen's lipgloss addiction but my own as well! Every time I read this blog (which is every day), I find another gloss I just can't live without. Carleen's reviews are spot-on, honest and told in such a fun, conversational tone. Carleen's second blog, Beauty and Fashion Tech, also has fantastic product reviews -- but Carleen goes beyond the world of lipgloss to feature skincare and makeup (a recent fave post was about NARS The Multiple in Orgasm). Read on to discover more about the fabulous Carleen!
Why did you decide to start your blogs?
I write legal material for a living and wanted to try my hand at writing something different. I love cosmetics and am a lip product addict, so focusing on beauty and lip products made sense.
I love the name of your blogs! How did you come up with them?
Beauty and Fashion Tech came about when I originally thought I would focus on the more technical (AKA geeky) side of beauty and style. But over time, both the fashion and the tech became less and the blog is now a pretty normal product review blog. Girl Gloss got its name when I was trying to find something catchy with "gloss" or "lip gloss" in it.
Do you have a "day job?" What is it?
My full-time job is as a staff attorney for an appellate court system. I take a case, research it, recommend an outcome in writing, draft an opinion after consultation with the judges, and then repeat the process with a new case.
What have been some of the highlights of having your blogs?
The wonderful people I have met is definitely the top highlight. By networking with other bloggers, I have met a wide variety of interesting and fun women.
What are your top 5 beauty essentials?
1) Creme de la Mer used as an eye cream
2) Sunscreen -- preferably with a physical blocking ingredient
3) Banana Boat lip balm with spf for day
4) Badger lip balm for night
5) Whatever my favorite gloss or lip color of the moment is -- right now it is Stila Cherry Crush.
Playing with products must be fun -- but what are some things you do for fun outside of blogging?
I am very active in a GPS game known as Geocaching (see http://www.geocaching.com) and I am a volunteer for their website. It is a fun outdoor treasure hunting type of activity. I also do Irish Dance and at times figure skating (ice).
Are there any other beauty blogs you read regularly? What are some that you like and why?
Oh boy, I read and like too many to list! I regularly read through the blogs in the Beauty Blog Network, Splendicity, and Total Beauty Networks. There are many talented and fun women writing about beauty products right now!
Thanks so much to Carleen for the lovely interview. Now be sure to read Girl Gloss and Beauty and Fashion Tech!

Great interview! I love learning about other bloggers!
This is a really wonderful interview Jamie.
I have never thought of using the Creme de la Mer as an eye cream. I am defintely heading over to Carleen's beauty web sites.
make-up junkie -- Thanks! Carleen is fantastic, isn't she?
jen hill -- Thanks! Carleen definitely has some great ideas. I love using products in unexpected ways, like blush for eyeshadow -- but I had never thought to use Creme de la Mer as an eye cream either!
