First Look Fridays: Dr. Gregory Bays-Brown of ReVive

Have you heard of the amazingness that is ReVive? This skincare line is chock-full of products that make women look and feel fabulous. And its creator, Dr. Gregory Bays-Brown, knows exactly how to do that. A plastic surgeon, Dr. Brown is a true pioneer and revolutionary in the world of skincare. Read on to discover more about the line and Dr. Brown!

Can you tell me a little about ReVive?
ReVive is really the first -- and probably only -- skincare company to truly apply the scientific expertise of the biotechnology industry to beauty products.

How did you first become interested in skincare, and what led you to work in product development?
I first became interested in the concept of ReVive when I was a surgical resident many years ago. Doing basic research on wound healing models, and by applying growth factors (which then were newly available through biotechnology) to healing wounds, we were able to demonstrate that wounds heal faster with exogenous growth factor application. I then extrapolated that concept to aging skin, which in many ways is like a healing wound in that order to speed healing or to reverse (stabilize) aging skin, increased cell renewal/cell division must transpire in both situations.

When did you create ReVive, and how did it grow from an idea to reality?
I created "makeshift" forms of ReVive in the early 90s in my plastic surgery practice and gave it to my patients, family and friends. My patients in the early days really served as my laboratory for the efficacy of ReVive. Once I saw how efficacious it was on aging skin, I patented the concept and launched a commercial form of ReVive in 1997 at Neiman Marcus.

What are some of the highlights in your career?
1) Some of my biggest highlights are attending Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard) for general surgical residency, Emory University for plastic surgery residency.

2) Seeing the changes plastic surgery can make for the positive in my patients' lives.

3) Publication of my growth factor findings on wound healing in the New England Journal of Medicine.

4) The first day I saw ReVive on the counter at Neiman Marcus.

What are your top 3 skincare tips?
1) Sunscreen always.

2) Don't smoke.

3) Everything in moderation.

What is your favorite ReVive product and why?
Moisturizing Renewal Cream. It was out first and only product at the time of commercializing ReVive and it is extremely efficacious.

What are the products and brands you simply can't live without?
Moisturizing Renewal Cream
Sensitif oil-free
Fermitif neck cream

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing people feel better about themselves and increasing their self-confidence.

Playing with beauty products must be fun -- but what are some things you do for fun outside of being a product creator?
Outside work ... I work out, Bikram yoga. Have a horse farm, art auctions and collecting, Kabbalah.

  1. Great interview! I love ReVive. The Moisturizing Renewal Cream is amazing. I've never had a product give me such immediate results. Every time I use it, I wake up to baby smooth, even skin.
