Beauty Watch: Hayden Panettiere at Kohl's Cares for Kids in Los Angeles

Now, I have to admit -- I'm not always the biggest fan of Hayden Panettiere's beauty and fashion choices. But at the Kohl's Cares for Kids event in Los Angeles on December 13, she really knocked it out of the park with her hair and makeup. Her heavily lined eyes and thick lashes were kept totally age appropriate with dewy skin and a glossy nude lip, while her elegant updo just lent a touch of class and sophistication.

See how to recreate Hayden's look after the jump.

HAIR:
The best way to get Hayden's updo is to pull your hair into a simple bun. The trick is to make it look polished yet not totally finished -- a bit of mess and even a slight pompadour in the front will make it stand out from your normal bun. After blowdrying, work in a styling product like Frederic Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel ($23 at sephora.com), which will help you to hold the style easier. Pull tresses back into a bun and secure with elastics or bobby pins -- either will work. Then take a comb and pull up at the roots, teasing just a bit for added lift. There should not be any tendrils pulled out, but there can be a slight messy, almost bedheadish look to it.

COMPLEXION:
Skin should be kept clear and with as little product as possible. But dusting a bit of pink shimmer across the forehead and cheeks will add dimension and shine. Try the Bobbi Brown Rose Shimmer Brick Compact ($38 at bobbibrown.com), which has five different sparkly pink and rose shades that add that little bit of glitz and glamour to your visage.

EYES:
This is the totally va-va-voom part of your entire look! While the actual lid is kept quite clean, the liner and lashes punch it up and make this a totally glamorous look for evening. Sweep a light pink shadow such as NARS Eyeshadow in Fathom ($22 at narscosmetics.com) across your lids, stopping right at the crease. This shadow has sparkle baked into the formula but will still be understated enough not to take away from the rest of the look.
Now it's time to line your eyes. Start with a liner like Pop Beauty Cat Eyes in Black Onyx ($16 at popbeauty.co.uk), which has a fabulous angled tip that will really help you make it glide easily. Draw a thick and precise line from the inner to outer corners of your top lashline. Then, using a firm hand, draw along your lower waterline from the inner to outer corners, making sure the top and bottom lines connect. You should be left with an almond shape that is very neat and defined.
Now for the lashes. Start with a mascara like Too Faced Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara ($19.50 at toofaced.com), which defines, separates and lengthens lashes. This mascara works to curl your lashes as well, making the need for an eyelash curler unnecessary. Adding some false eyelashes on top, such as Shu Uemura Partial Soft Cross False Eyelashes ($16 at shuuemura-usa.com), will further accent your lashes.

LIPS:
Lips should be glossy and full, yet still quite natural so as not to distract from the distinctiveness of your eyes. e.l.f. Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 in Goddess ($1 at eyeslipsface.com) will do just that. The squeezable tube is perfect for applying as much or as little as you want to really make your pout stand out without taking over the entire look.
