Steal the Look: Vanessa Hudgens at Nickelodeon's 22nd Annual Kids' Choice Awards

“Vanessa’s look was really fun and more casual then most red carpet events," said makeup artist Karen Mitchell. "Her accessories and outfit were really rock-and-roll-inspired so we went for a fun, smoky eye and a pretty shimmer to the skin."

FACE:
“For her glowing skin we began with Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Liquid Makeup in Tan, and 3-in-1 Concealer for Eyes in Medium," Mitchell said. "Then I set that with the Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation in natural beige.”

EYES:
“By applying a bit of concealer to the lid first, you can achieve a great base for eyeshadow," Mitchell said. To get the look, she started with Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer Kit in Medium, which "is moisturizing and gives a really natural coverage," she said. Mitchell then used the Neutrogena Nourishing Quad in Moonlit Violet, sweeping the silvery highlight shade on the inside of the top and bottom of the eye. The crease (wine) and accent (smoke) colors from the quad were blended at the outside of the lid corners, blending out and up into the crease.

Mitchell then lined the entire eye with Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black and brushed brows with a soft toothbrush, filling in with accent color from the Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Quad in Sea Shell. "It made the perfect brow powder," she said. She then curled the lashes and added four coats of Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black.

LIPS:
To finish the look, Mitchell used a layer of MoistureShine Lipstick in Sheer Luck and MoistureShine Gloss in Whisper.

A New Take on the Braid and Bun, Courtesy of Amber Valletta at the Nickelodeon 2009 Kids Choice Awards

Braid? Check. Bun? Check. Glamorous yet totally easy and elegant? Double and triple check. Amber Valletta showed up to the Nickelodeon 2009 Kids Choice Awards rocking a totally gorgeous combination of braid and bun that just made her totally stand out from the crowd. A simple messy bun was anchored by a French braid coming up from the nape of her neck. Yep, this is the look I want to rock at my next event.

What do you think? Do you love Amber's combination of braid and bun? Or do you wish she would have stuck to one or the other? Let me know in the comments!

America Ferrera Gets Lippy at the Nickelodeon 2009 Kids Choice Awards

Well, wow. America Ferrera sure did know how to choose a bangin' lipcolor for the Nickelodeon 2009 Kids Choice Awards held this past Saturday. She paired subtle wavy locks with glowing skin and a bit of black eyeliner. But the piece de resistance was most definitely her glossy pout. A bit raspberry, a bit cocoa, and all gorgeousness. The lip coordinated perfectly with her dress without coming across as too matchy-matchy. Definitely a winning look for the Ugly Betty starlet.

What do you think? Do you think America Ferrera gave good lip, or would you rather have seen a different shade altogether? Let me know in the comments!

Must-Have Mondays: Peter Thomas Roth Lips to Die For Pink Bombshell Lip Balm

Lips to die for? They certainly will be when you use Peter Thomas Roth Lips to Die For Pink Bombshell Lip Balm. Yes, this is the longest name you may ever come across for a lip balm. But you know what? It will roll right off your lips -- no pun intended!

Now, I know some people don't care much for pot balms. But I honestly really like balm in a pot. There's something about it that just seems dignified, even if I am scooping my fingers into it to get the product out. And this one truly is meant for glitz and glamour, since not only does it moisturize, but it has a glossy, glimmery finish!

What do you think a combination of aloe, Vitamin E, mango and shea butter do? They condition your lips, of course! And just a bit of this balm slicked across your pout will leave it softer and smoother than you could ever imagine. Not to mention this balm is formulated with avocado oil, lanolin and beeswax to make your lips even lusher. And the added gleam? Well, boys will just be lining up to kiss you, won't they?

Peter Thomas Roth Lips to Die For Pink Bombshell Lip Balm retails for $20 at peterthomasroth.com.

What Do You Think of Jordin Sparks' Nail Polish?

So I'm a bit torn on this one, fellow beauty chicks. Jordin Sparks showed up to VH1 Save the Music Foundation's One Splendid Evening event this past week rocking a truly gorgeous ombre gown. But she paired it with a nail color that I'm just not sure I'm feeling. Here's a closeup...

Now, while I'm totally happy that she went with a bold nail color, I think it actually clashes with the gown since the teal hue is closer to the hem. It would have been much better to go with a pale blue.

What do you think? Do you applaud the teal nail polish, or would you have liked to see something different on Jordin? Let me know in the comments!

First Look Fridays: Beth Shapouri of Glamour's The Girls in the Beauty Department

Once in awhile, I meet a blogger at an event or fashion show and we just instantly bond over something that's happening. Such was the case with Beth Shapouri, one of the bloggers behind Glamour's beauty blog, The Girls in the Beauty Department. As we both waited in vain to get backstage for the Rosa Cha show during Spring 2009 Fashion Week, we became increasingly incensed over the lack of care shown to the bloggers -- and immediately started chatting to try and alleviate our frustration. Ever since, I've been hooked on the Glamour blog and read it incessantly throughout the day. And the blogger who always catches my attention with her interesting new ways to look at old products or ideas about celebrities' latest hair and makeup looks? It's Beth, of course. I'm thrilled to bring you this week's edition of First Look Fridays with the fabulous Beth Shapouri. Find out all about how she got involved in the beauty world, what her favorite products are and more after the jump.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby and really big hair. I was always naturally pretty good at figuring out makeup stuff, but I never really thought that much about it -- I really just wanted to be a writer. The beauty part came about because I did an internship at a teen magazine called YM when I was studying journalism at New York University. They needed a beauty assistant right when I was graduating and I thought, Hey, I can handle writing about makeup and went for the job.

When did you first become interested in beauty, and what sparked your interest?
Like I said, I really fell into beauty -- I didn't really set out to go into it. But there's an artistic element to it I really like. And the science behind new products is always interesting.

How did you become involved with the Girls in the Beauty Department?
I heard they were looking for someone right around the time I was getting an itch to get into blogging. Fate, perhaps?

What have been some of the highlights of being involved with the Glamour beauty blog?
Definitely the immediate feedback and interaction with commentors -- I LOVE that. And it's the first time I've ever been able to write about all the little things that come up that catch my eye like when someone wears some insane hair accessory on American Idol or something. That's a lot of fun.

How do you come up with your ideas and decide what to write about?
I look at a lot of celebrity film, so that helps. But anything could spur a blog post. Really, anything. Something a friend says. A moment I have in the bathroom where I drop my eyeliner on my bathmat. Anything.

What are your beauty essentials?

1) A good bronzer, always, always.

2) I've recently become OBSESSED with glycolic acid thanks to a Mario Badescu face wash that I kind to want to marry. Seriously, my skintone is so much more even. (Click here to read Beth's post about it!)

3) Concealer. I have several tubs I alternate. And I posted about how much I love AmazingConcealer -- it really does hide undereye circles.

4) Black mascara, of course. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect one. Maybe some day I'll find it.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Helping women figure out the parts they love best about themselves and giving them ways to play those things up.

Playing with products must be fun -- but what do you do for fun when you're not blogging?
What most people do, I think. Read, go to movies, grab dinner with my girlfriends, etc. And my blog readers know I'm into certain TV shows (cough*Lost*cough). [Editor's note: I knew I liked you, Beth!]

Are there any other beauty blogs you read regularly? What are some that you like and why?
We've featured a bunch of really cute ones like Spoiled Pretty and BellaSugar. But really, I try to rotate what I read to keep my eye on what's going on out there. I'm always looking for new bloggers with a different point of view. There's a lot to cover!

Trend-Filled Thursdays: Two-Tone Eyeshadow

Most gals can agree that eyeshadow is somewhat of a necessity. How often do you walk out of the house without sweeping on at least a tad? But the runways at Fall 2009 Fashion Week upped the eyeshadow quotient by about a mile. The look? Two-tone eyeshadow. Whether models sported one color on the top and another on the bottom as at Giambattista Valli (seen at left), or two blending into each other on the lids, this look was all over the runways. Check out the proof after the jump.

A heavy smoky eye is accented with a shot of electric blue in the inner corners at Versace
Rose shadow on the browbone and charcoal grey on the lid, both blended toward the outer corner and swept in a line toward the cheekbone, at Gucci
Rose shadow pairs with deep creamy charcoal and pale lips at Marc Jacobs
John Galliano tends toward the theatrical as always, this time with baby blue shadow and goldenrod accents in the center of the eyelids
A tiny shot of blue lends vibrancy to a smoky eye at Dsquared
Shimmery purple with glistening silvery inner corners at Christian Dior

Jacquetta Wheeler, I Miss Your Light Brown Pixie Cut.

I've had a longtime fascination with model Jacquetta Wheeler. There's something about her that just always stands out to me, whether she's walking the runway for Ralph Lauren or modeling in ads for Gucci and Prada.

But I've gotta admit, I'm not a fan of her new curly blonde locks. She looks okay with this 'do, sure. But check out how she looked back in 2007 with her old signature light brown pixie cut...

See? It just suited her better. I miss it. Jacquetta, please bring back your sideswept pixie! And your gorgeous highlights!

What do you think? Are you loving her new look, or do you miss the way things used to be? Let me know in the comments!

Rachelle LeFevre Gives Me More Curls to Covet

Now, this just really isn't fair. Not only am I not a natural redhead like Twilight star Rachelle LeFevre, but my hair will never be that curly. Granted, she's got a bit of dryness going on at the roots. But you know what? I don't care.

At the premiere of the new movie Blood River at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles on March 24, her long and curly locks were the perfect shade of red ... almost a cross between strawberry blonde and burnt orange. She accented her hair perfectly with heavy eyeliner, dewy skin and a subtle pink lip.

What do you think of Rachelle LeFevre's look? Are you loving it, or are the curls too much? Let me know in the comments!

Wallet-Friendly Wednesdays: China Glaze Raspberry Festival

As soon as I saw China Glaze Raspberry Festival -- part of the Summer Days Collection -- had this gorgeous jelly finish, I just knew I had to try it immediately.

And here's what I can say. W-O-W. Nail polish with a jelly finish certainly isn't playing around! Not only is this polish one of the most gorgeous colors I've seen in quite some time, but it dries to a highly glossy, highly pigmented, unbelievably glittery, totally smooth finish that just has to be seen to be believed.

I decided to paint my toes with this color, because it's the perfect shade of -- you guessed it -- raspberry. It's this gorgeous shimmer-flecked berry that glistens in the light so beautifully. Two coats don't even require a topcoat, though I can't be parted with my Seche Vite, so the color came out all the more glossy.

And the best part? Two weeks later, my pedi is still totally intact without a single chip. I've never seen anything like it!

China Glaze Raspberry Festival retails for $2.68 at 8ty8beauty.com.

Two-For Tuesdays: Artistry Lip Care Kit

Have you heard of Artistry? I hadn't either. I actually have my boss to thank for introducing me to the brand -- she was at a party recently and there were a bunch of Artistry items in the gift bag, and she ended up giving them all to me! Of course I gravitated toward the Artistry Lip Care Kit, because anyone who knows me knows that I am all about a good balm. I honestly had no expectations whatsoever when I pulled each of the lip products out of this kit ... but thankfully, they came through with flying colors!

The two products in the Artistry Lip Care Kit are meant to make lips soft, smooth, moisturized, conditioned ... okay, you get the picture. And, you guessed it, it's a two-step process! The kit contains a Lip Polish and a Lip Conditioner, which, used in that order, work to make your pout really pucker.

Let's begin with the Lip Polish. I'm all about a good body scrub, so why not one for the lips as well? And this one certainly does not disappoint. Tiny granules of bamboo extract in the formula work to exfoliate dryness and slough away dead skin cells without leaving behind any sort of funky aftertaste. You simply swipe on a bit of the polish and wipe off the excess with a tissue or cloth. The result? Instantly softer and smoother lips. Seriously, I noticed a difference within seconds -- and this was with chapped lips from 20-degree temperatures!

I followed with the Lip Conditioner, which is formulated with antioxidants and Vitamins A and E for supreme moisturization and hydration. It also has synthetic beeswax, which just works to make lips that much softer and smoother.

My final prognosis? This kit is totally worth it if you want your lips to be soft and kissable. And hey, who doesn't want that?

The Artistry Lip Care Kit retails for $22 at quixtar.com.

Kristen Stewart Shows Off Green Eyeshadow at the Adventureland Premiere

By now, you all know about my obsession with Twilight. And while it certainly centers more around the amazingness of Robert Pattinson (not to mention how fabulous the books are), I still love the rest of the stars, too. And what I'm currently loving? Kristen Stewart's green eyeshadow at the premiere of Adventureland on March 16. It pairs really nicely against her black-and-orange striped dress, and the subtle black liner on the lid further enhances the color.

The only thing I'm not so sure about is the red lipstick. It seems to clash too much with the vibrancy of the dress. But overall, the look is pretty stellar!

What do you think? Are you loving Kristen's look, or should she have been a bit less adventurous? Let me know in the comments!

Must-Have Mondays: Sephora Stimulating Lavender Cuticle Oil

I'm normally not a fan of lavender. There's something about the scent that, outside of spas, makes me run the other way. But all that changed when I came across the Sephora Stimulating Lavender Cuticle Oil.

Suddenly, I found myself jonesing for more and more lavender. Everywhere I went, I needed to have this little pen right by my side. I began compulsively applying the lavender-scented gel to my cuticles, sometimes up to three times a day, in the hopes that the scent would calm and soothe my nerves.

And you know what? It did. Plus it made my cuticles look a heck of a lot better than they had before, especially with the horrible weather conditions New York has experienced this season. Gone were the ravaged, dry, cracked and peeling cuticles of my past. Here to stay were cuticles so gorgeous, I actually started getting compliments.

It's been about a month of serious use with this pen, and I still can't get enough. My cuticles are moisturized and conditioned more than they ever have been, and my hands smell fantastic. What's not to love?

Sephora Stimulating Lavender Cuticle Oil is available for $12 at sephora.com.

Color, Color, Color at Christian Dior

We can always count on John Galliano to bring drama to the runway of both his namesake label and that of Christian Dior ... and Fall 2009 Fashion Week was no exception. Models at Christian Dior were seen walking down the runway with multitudes of color on their faces and a makeshift helmet that literally took over 2000 bobby pins to create. While I sometimes think that the makeup at Dior is so over the top it borders on the ridiculous, I'm actually totally feeling what happened this season.

Models sported a variety of different colors both on their faces and their nails in a totally futuristic fashion. Eyeshadow was swept over the lids, up to the browbone and outside the corners, and then accented with a ton of mascara on both the top and bottom lashes to create a long, spiky look. Lips were painted with deep mulberry and purple hues but not filled in all the way, creating an old-time Clara Bow look. And the nails sported moon manicures in a variety of hues -- definitely a huge trend for fall.

Check out tons of pictures after the jump.

So what do you think of this look? Would you sport it in a toned down manner, or is it best left to the runway? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Bottom Up! Bottom Lashes are Top Dollar at 3.1 Phillip Lim

Forget top lashes ... or at least that's what happened at 3.1 Phillip Lim during Fall 2009 Fashion Week. Because rather than loading the top lashes with mascara, they were left bare. Never fear, though ... the bottom lashes were shown quite special treatment and accented to the fullest! Paired with minimal makeup, the bottom lashes were longer, thicker and lusher than the top lashes at quite a few of the shows this season.

What do you think of this look? Should the bottom lashes have been left alone, or would you rock this? Let me know in the comments!

Fall 2009 Fashion Week Shows Us a New Way to Sport Accessories

Now, we all wear gloves in the fall. But on our heads rather than our hands? Well, that's a new one. But that's exactly what happened at Dolce & Gabbana during Fall 2009 Fashion Week. Model Chanel Iman walked down the runway wearing hot pink gloves on top of her head (as seen at left) ... and Dolce wasn't the only designer to pick out of the ordinary places to put accessories. Lydia Delgado and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada went the same route, using everything from umbrellas to oversized bows! See the pictures and weigh in after the jump.

A huge patent leather bow stands in for sunglasses at Lydia Delgado
An umbrella as a hair accessory at Agatha Ruiz de la Prada? That's a new one ...
I've heard of hair looking like a bird's nest, but I've never actually seen one used as a hair accessory before this shot at Agatha Ruiz de la Prada!

I have a feeling this trend won't be catching on ... but I'll leave it up to you to decide. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
