Obsession of the Moment: Lizzie Fortunato Jewels Electric Kool-Aid Necklace

Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, Lizzie Fortunato Jewels Electric Kool-Aid Necklace, Lizzie Fortunato Jewels necklace, necklace, jewelry, Charm & Chain, Obsession of the MomentIf there's one thing I like, it's a substantial piece of jewelry. And the Electric Kool-Aid Necklace by Lizzie Fortunato Jewels most definitely fits the bill. The jumble of oversized, multicolored rosettes crafted from various vintage fabrics makes such a unique, eye-catching statement, don't you think? I'm just imagining how cool this stunner would look with a simple white tee and dark skinny jeans.

Best of all, this gorgeous necklace is on sale at my fave jewelry site, Charm & Chain -- originally $477 but now $405!

All Things Shimmer and Sparkle: Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Star Pink

Estee Lauder, Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss, Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Star Pink, Estee Lauder lipgloss, lipgloss, lip gloss, gloss, lip, lips, pink gloss, pink lipglossThe perfect shimmery pink? I just found it -- and it's Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Star Pink. The pale pink gloss imparts the most gorgeous sparkle -- and it's one of the first pastels I've found that actually looks good on its own. Usually I find I have to layer pale pink glosses over deeper colors to really get the shade I'm after -- but with this one, I can just slick it on my pout and head out the door!

Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Star Pink retails for $20.

What's Your Beauty Indulgence? Beauty Editor Andrea Lavinthal Fills Us In.

Marie Robinson, color, hair color, colorist, hair colorist, Andrea Lavinthal, beauty indulgence, indulgence, What's Your Beauty Indulgence? The What's Your Beauty Indulgence? series gives you an inside look into the products that my fellow industry insiders hold in highest regard. Be it a moisturizer or a lipgloss, a styling tool or a candle, these products aren't to be missed.

When it comes to beauty knowledge, Andrea Lavinthal -- Senior Beauty Editor for RealBeauty.com -- is among the best. She's got the 411 on all things beauty! So it comes as no surprise that her beauty indulgence is, dare I say it, enlightened. Read on to discover just what it is!

My number one beauty indulgence isn’t a product, it’s a person -- specifically my colorist, Marie Robinson. I can't live without her crazy-good color skills. She rescued me from my blonderexia four years ago and I've never let another colorist touch my hair since then. I like to joke that she's my "strand soul mate" because she knows exactly what hue I want before I even say a word. Marie recently left Sally Hershberger Downtown to open her own salon in Manhattan’s Flatiron District and the place is gorgeous with huge windows and an all-star lineup of stylists. I hope the feeling is mutual, as I plan to spend A LOT of time there.

Fashion Question: What's the One Trend You Wish You Hadn't Missed Out On?

When I think back to the 80's and 90's, there's not much I didn't try. The 80's saw me in pin-covered stonewashed denim jackets, pegged jeans, oversized tees with stirrup leggings, ice cream coned socks (multiple pairs of socks layered on top of one another), and of course my many pairs of LA Gears high-tops. The 90's saw the insurgence of grunge, complete with my grandpa's way-too-big flannel shirts, ripped jeans and Birkenstocks over thick woolen socks. But two trends in particular were missing...

BEDAZZLING!
If ever there were a trend I wish I had taken part in, it's the bedazzler. I never had one -- and to this day, I regret it. I'm so sad not to have any sparkly stunners from the 80's.

Doc Martens
These tough-girl boots were HIGHLY coveted at my junior high ... but unfortunately, they were just always a touch out of my price range.

What are the trends you wish you hadn't missed out on? Let me know in the comments!

Citizen of Womanity: Thierry Mugler Womanity

Thierry Mugler, Thierry Mugler Womanity, Thierry Mugler fragrance, Thierry Mugler perfume, perfume, fragrance, shower gel, beauty launchIt takes a lot for me to really love a fragrance. But the second I smelled Thierry Mugler Womanity, I was hooked.

Let's begin with how gorgeous the bottle is, shall we? I'm always looking for products worthy of display, and this definitely fits the bill. The angular, rectangular-shaped pink bottle is capped by a structural silver topper ... and, if that's not enough, the hanging chain detail gives it such a downtown rocker feel.

Notes of fig and caviar create a sensually intriguing scent that at once feels spicy, girly, feminine, sexy, sweet ... it's perfect whether you're going out to a movie with your girlfriends or you have a hot date with your current Mr. Right.

On a side note, I've been most attracted to the shower gel -- it's a wonderfully fiery, zesty start to the day.

Thierry Mugler Womanity pricing is as follows: $58 for the 1 oz. eau de parfum, $78 for the 1.7 oz. eau de parfum, $98 for the 2.7 oz. eau de parfum, $40 for the shower gel.

Mani of the Week: Deborah Lippmann Fashion

Deborah Lippmann, Deborah Lippmann nail polish, Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer, Deborah Lippmann Fashion, nail, nails, nail polish, polish, lacquer, nail lacquer, nude polish, nude nail polish, mannequin handsThe perfect nude polish? It most certainly exists -- and it's called Deborah Lippmann Fashion. I usually go for much crazier polish choices (see the evidence here) -- so, this week, I thought it would be crazy to go for a fairly "safe" color! But to be honest, I don't find anything safe about this polish. The interesting mix of taupe, tan and beige creates a hue that at once fades into the background and completely stands out. And the creamy texture, with no hint of shimmer or sparkle, is undeniably elegant and sophisticated.

While I'm not in the habit of wearing polish more than once -- I have way too many to ever repeat! -- I'm definitely going to need to keep this in my arsenal. It's just too gorgeous to keep on the back burner!

What's Your Beauty Indulgence? Beauty Blogger Dina Fierro Fills Us In.

Clarisonic, Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System, Dina Fierro, eye4style, indulgence, beauty indulgence, What's Your Beauty Indulgence? The What's Your Beauty Indulgence? series gives you an inside look into the products that my fellow industry insiders hold in highest regard. Be it a moisturizer or a lipgloss, a styling tool or a candle, these products aren't to be missed.

When I think of my favorite fashion and beauty bloggers, Dina Fierro from eye4style immediately comes to mind. Not only is she whip-smart, extremely knowledgeable about all things beauty and fashion, and a really fantastic writer -- but her intensely curated jewelry collection is covetable. Not to mention I count her among my nearest and dearest friends. (We even traveled to Vegas together earlier this year to see the incomparable Dita Von Teese!) Dina's love of beauty really knows no bounds, so I was extremely interested to find out what she considers her beauty indulgence. In Dina's own words, here it is.

While I count almost every product I use as a beauty indulgence, the Clarisonic is likely my most recent and maybe, just MAYBE, the most indulgent of all. Now, let's be clear. One doesn't NEED an expensive gadget to get squeaky clean skin, but since when is beauty really about NEEDS? The Clarisonic makes my sensitive, problematic skin feel legitimately softer, clearer, cleaner and fresher after use, so in my book, it's worth the splurge.

Check back soon for another edition of What's Your Beauty Indulgence?.

First Look Fridays: Makeup Artist Susan Giordano

Luminous, beautiful, ethereal ... Makeup artist Susan Giordano's work is all of that and more. Her makeup artistry has appeared in Vogue, Glamour, Cosmopolitan -- and on famous faces including Katie Holmes and Isabella Rossellini. Read on to discover the makeup artist who first inspired her, her secret to getting the curliest eyelashes ever and so much more.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I was born and raised in Manhattan. It was a wonderful childhood, filled with parks and museums and tree lined streets. As I got older, I enjoyed window shopping on Madison Avenue and makeup shopping in Bloomingdale's. The secondhand stores on the Upper East Side were a goldmine for a young kid with a keen eye. It was inevitable that I would someday wind up in the fashion industry.

How did you first become interested in makeup, and what led you to become a makeup artist?
As a kid, I was always fascinated with makeup and fashion. In high school, I conducted a makeup class and did demonstrations. I had my first paying makeup job at the age of 14. My next door neighbor loved the makeup I did for my aunt’s wedding so she hired me to do hers. I charged her $35 bucks (the price has gone up considerably since then).

I was also buying Vogue with my allowance. To me, this magazine world was a glamorous world that I wanted to be a part of. It was many years later, working as a Wall Street stockbroker, that I finally figured out how to make that transition from reading magazines to working for them. Through one of my Wall Street friends, I was introduced to a booker at the Elite Modeling Agency. She set me up on my first test shoot and I was hooked. I tested almost every night after work and every single weekend. I put together a pathetic little book which I was very proud of at the time (I still have it, it’s hilarious!). I quit my well-paying Wall Street job and started peddling my book around town. It took awhile, but I finally caught my “Big Break.” I landed a beauty story in Harper's Bazaar and as if it wasn’t enough to have gorgeous “this close” pictures taken by Patrick Demarchelier, there was an article attached and my name was mentioned no less than five times. Things started taking off from there.

Have you worked with any makeup artists who inspired you? What did they teach you?
Early on in my career, I had the privilege of working with Dick Page. From him I learned the art of restraint and how simple things can make a big impact.

What are some of the moments that have stood out as highlights in your career?
I love to travel. Doing this job has taken me around the world where I have been exposed to so many different cultures and beautiful things. A big highlight for me was my first trip to India. I worked with Indian movie stars on Bollywood movie sets and I fell in love with Indian culture.

What are your beauty essentials?
Satin Skin -- My work is known for having a soft, glowing quality. Satin Skin is a liquid moisturizer I have been using for many years and it’s the first thing to go on anyone who sits in my chair. I make it myself from six natural ingredients. It imparts an immediate glow to the skin and has rejuvenating properties to keep skin looking young and lovely.

M.A.C Face and Body Foundation has a beautiful sheer texture and always leaves skin looking touchable.

Alcone Non-Latex Sponges. You can’t beat them for blending. I don’t know if I could work without them!

Shu Uemura Mini Eyelash Curler -- It’s amusing when someone in my chair will say “Oh, my lashes don’t curl.” Without saying a word, I’ll go about my business and then hand them a mirror. The look is usually priceless.

Dior DiorShow Mascara in Black. The big, fat brush will give you big, fat lashes. And it’s really black.

NARS Lipsticks -- I love them all! There is a color and texture for everyone.

What are your top 3 makeup tips?
1) Blend, blend, blend! I can’t say that enough times. Makeup should have a seamless quality. It should never look like it’s sitting on top of your face.

2) Work with what you have. But be positive -- with a little cosmetic slight of hand, what you have will look like a whole lot more!

3) When you find a look that works, stick with it. Think of your iconic beauties like Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly. They found the one look that made the most of their beauty and they stuck with it.

Being a makeup artist must be fun -- but what do you do in your spare time?
Being a makeup artist is fun. Work rarely feels like work to me. Seriously, I get paid to play dress up! I have many interests and hobbies. My home is always filled with plants and fresh flowers. My husband and I recently moved to Westchester, where I am able to indulge my passion for gardening. I enjoy painting as well (flowers are my favorite subject). In addition to Satin Skin, I make natural creams, lotions and perfumes. I just recently learned to make shampoo and conditioner. I also enjoy cooking and entertaining. And I love flea markets and yard sales –- you just never know what you might find.

Fashion Question: Should You Match Your Workout Shoes to Your Outfit?

As I walked down the street today, I noticed a girl wearing a blue racerback top, black running pants and Pumas to match. It made me think she was more serious about looking good at the gym than actually getting a decent workout ... especially since Pumas aren't the most reliable running shoes! I'm of the mind that you should wear running shoes with support and traction rather than making sure they go with your top. But what do you think? Let me know your opinions in the comments!

My Latest Purchase: See by Chloe Block-Color Cotton Sundress from The Outnet

See by Chloe, See by Chloe Block-Color Cotton Sundress, See by Chloe dress, See by Chloe sundress, sundress, dress, The OutnetAfter one of the most hellatious weeks known to man -- including a bout with a stolen debit card number, in which someone charged over $1200 to something asinine called College Sports -- I needed a little pick-me-up. (Aside: Do I look like someone who would even spend $40 at a place called College Sports? Seriously, Capital One -- how about being more vigilant with large purchases on my debit card, especially when the biggest purchase I've ever made with it was maybe $150? Luckily, the purchase was declined before it went through and bankrupted me.)

In any case, my broken-down -- and, quite frankly, broke -- self was weeping for joy when that purchase didn't go through. And to appease my wounded psyche, I decided there was nothing more apropos than a little shopping! I'd been eying the See by Chloe Block-Color Cotton Sundress on The Outnet for quite some time, but this weekend seemed the perfect time to purchase it -- because it was an extra 40 percent off, bringing it down to only $70! (It was originally $320!) I also bought dresses by Vanessa Bruno and Calvin Klein.

Just waiting for everything to arrive -- and hopefully fit! -- and then I will do a haul of the day for all of you. In the meantime, I sure am happy my money is safe and sound!

First Look Fridays: Manicurist and CND Education Ambassador Candice Manacchio

If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit obsessed with nails. So when I got the chance to interview Candice Manacchio, Education Ambassador with CND, I simply jumped at the chance! Read on to discover the reason she knew she wanted to become a manicurist, the products you need to get the absolute perfect manicure and so much more.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I have been in the nail industry for over 15 years. I went to Platt Tech, a technical high school, to take cosmetology and have been working in the beauty industry ever since. I started out working in a nail salon, to opening my own salon, then became an Education Ambassador with CND to inspire other nail professionals. Once I joined CND, I then had the opportunity to work NYC Fashion Week, with celebrities and other amazing artists in the industry, as well as have my work featured in Vogue, Glamour and Marie Claire.

How did you first become interested in nails, and what led you to become a manicurist?
I can remember at age 12 taking drops of different nail polish colors and swirling them on my nails with a toothpick to make swirl effects and setting a trend in junior high. Then in my teens, I got my hands on "do it yourself" acrylic nail kits and began experimenting on myself. When I was in cosmetology school and we would go to the IBS Beauty Show in NYC, I was in heaven ... you would find me for hours at nail booths and never at the hair booths, spending all my money on everything nails so I could work on all of my friends in school for fun. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a manicurist.

When did you become involved with CND, and what inspired you to work with the line?
I became involved with CND about 10 years ago. I sampled many different lines while working in salons, and always had excellent results with all of the products. That’s when I started to advance ... I attended many of their master classes and then went to one of the "Road Shows" in Rhode Island to become a Grand Master Certified nail Technician with CND. I really was amazed by how passionate the Education Ambassadors were and how much they enjoyed inspiring others and knew one day I wanted to be right up there with them.

What are your favorite nail polishes and why?
My absolute favorite is the new CND "Colour & Effects" line. There are 50 perfect creme color shades from the lightest nudes to the richest darks that suit every skin tone. Then, what makes it amazing are the 15 Effects -- this is where you get to be as creative as you want and have it all. The Effects have pearl, shimmer and sparkle effects so you can change any of the creme shades to any look you desire, a woman’s best friend!

What are your top 5 essentials from CND?
For the perfect manicure, all you need are the following CND products:

1) SolarOil to hydrate and nourish dry cuticles and skin

2) Cuticle Eraser to exfoliate the dry cuticles

3) Glossing Block to buff nails to a high shine when there's no time for polish -- it leaves a coat of wax on the nail and makes them super shiny

4) Air Dry Top Coat -- when using alone or to freshen up polish it looks wet and shiny for days even though its dry

What are your top 3 nail tips?

1) Never cut your cuticles! Instead keep them well hydrated. If you cut them they will just keep growing back thick and hard.

2) Always carry a 3-way buffer with you to smooth a snag as soon as one starts to prevent you from breaking a nail or the desire to want to peel them.

3) Treat nails as jewels not tools, and you will keep the life of your manicures.
