Life's So Rosy: Weleda Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash
Now, I'll preface this by saying that I usually don't like creamy body washes. I just don't find them to lather as well or do the job that shower gels seem to. But then I discovered Weleda Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash ... and immediately, all bets were off.
For starters, the lather from this body wash is unbelievable. A dime-sized amount on a pouf and voila! Enough to clean every last inch of your body with product to spare.
And what a decadently scented product it is! The scent of roses permeates throughout your shower experience and makes you feel like a queen. And with organic rosehip seed oil, essential fatty acids, Vitamins A and E, and potent antioxidants, your skin will feel so unbelievably soft and smooth in mere minutes.
Weleda Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash retails for $17 at weleda.com.

Mani of the Week: butter LONDON No More Waity, Katie
For a nail polish entitled No More Waity, Katie, I sure spent a long time waiting for this butter LONDON stunner! Every time I tried to buy it, it was sold out. And then, on a chance trip to Ricky's last week, there it was. A lone bottle sitting on the shelf. Needless to say I snapped it up before anyone else could and hurried home with my prize!
This polish is a gorgeous shade of lilac violet that's packed to the gills with silver glitter. I will say that one coat goes on a little too clear for my liking, but with two coats? Glittery purple perfection. In certain lights, it even looks more greige than purple, so of course I'm completely in love.
A word to the wise: if you want the polish to feel smooth, you'll definitely need a top coat like Seche Vite. (Which, of course, I recommend using anyway.) Otherwise it will feel a bit rough to the touch.
What's on your nails this week? Let me know in the comments!

First Look Fridays: Sweetie Pie Jewelry Designer Dana Carvalho
Last year I discovered Sweetie Pie Jewelry. This contemporary jewelry line, created with everything from semi-precious gems to glass and Lucite, immediately spoke to me and I began wearing pieces immediately. I'm pleased to present my interview with Sweetie Pie Jewelry's founder, Dana Carvalho. Read on to discover how she started the line, which necklace she can't live without and so much more.
Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, went to college in Boston. I have a B.A. in Classical Studies and my concentration was in art in antiquity. I later moved to North Carolina, where I raised my daughter and taught school until a few years ago when I turned my hobby into my full-time job.
How did you first become interested in jewelry, and what led you to become a jewelry designer?
Two things I've always loved: art and working with my hands. I started back in high school -- metalsmithing, painting and making pottery -- and I've continued to create in a variety of ways ever since. Because I've always loved more understated clothes -- interesting cuts but muted, dark or neutral colors, jewelry was a way I could add an interesting or unusual element without being too "loud." I collected vintage jewelry for awhile and then about 10 years ago I started making jewelry again. Eventually I began selling my jewelry to friends and then to local boutiques.
How did the idea for Sweetie Pie Jewelry first come about, and how did it become a reality?
I had been working as a teacher for 23 years. When my daughter left for college, I started to devote more of my spare time to my growing jewelry business. I also did what many "empty nesters" do -- I got a small dog to "baby," a little pug named Sweetie Pie. One of the boutique owners who sold my jewelry approached me about taking my business to the next level. I didn't have much marketing experience so I had no idea how to do that. She was closing her boutique and came on board for a year and helped turn my small, local business into one that reaches a much larger audience. I learned a lot in that first year and my business is growing and I love what I do. I'm mostly doing wholesale to boutiques but next year I hope to keep up with my website better (I have so much jewelry that is not on there!) and expand my retail business.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
I've always thought of fashion as a conversation. It starts early as a way to say "I'm one of you" ( preschool girls wearing only pink and purple or boys wearing the right hat or T-shirt) or "I'm NOT one of YOU" (think of middle schoolers wearing the exact same outfits in order to be "different" ... not from each other but from parents/teachers/adults!). As we mature we are able to have a more interesting conversation, one where we're still talking to our peers through the way we dress but now we have more interesting things to say. Accessories, especially jewelry, offer a wonderful way to express yourself: Are you feeling bold? Pretty? Elegant? Adventurous? Flirty? Edgy? I love being a part of helping women have an interesting "conversation" at an affordable price.
So I start with elements I love -- vintage components, beautiful colors, classic chains and shapes -- and try to create wearable (girl wearing jewelry as opposed to jewelry wearing a girl!), interesting jewelry that inspires women to express themselves. Jewelry should always be flattering and I study jewelry styles and designs from antiquity to what is happening now -- and everything in between! -- in order to create designs that work for a variety of women of all ages and styles.
If you could only wear one piece from the line, what would it be and why?
My own style is understated but still noticeable and interesting. There are pieces in my line that I absolutely love but wouldn't wear myself, which is one of the benefits of being a designer because I get to express parts of myself through others. Right now I'm wearing a lot of the gunmetal or antique silver pieces. I love the Tracy necklace, the crystal piece is from an old chandelier from the early part of the 20th century. I only have a few dozen of them left so when they're gone they're gone. I also love the new jewelry I've made with vintage rosary chain. In fact I named my favorite piece Dana and I wear it all the time. I found some vintage brass loveknots and I've gilded them and mixed them with gunmetal chains and I love that look. I'm also loving the bigger earrings like Joy and Maggie. The Blair Mini are my go-to earrings. You meant "one piece from the line" every day, right?
What can we expect from Sweetie Pie going forward?
All of my chain and metal pieces are made in the USA by small family-owned companies that have been in business for many years. My goal is to continue buying this way in order to ensure the quality and integrity of my jewelry. I absolutely love finding vintage treasures to work into my designs and I hope to find new and interesting ways to continue that trend (more travel!). I'm working on Spring 2012 right now and the colors are so exciting. As always, I hope to interpret the spring trends into wearable jewelry with a timeless quality -- jewelry that allows women to say what they want to say in the way they want to say it!
Being a jewelry designer must be fun -- but what do you do in your spare time?
I am fortunate because I love what I do, so although I spend most of my time making and designing jewelry it doesn't feel like work. I am devoted to my family and I make time for my husband and my daughter, though since she's moved to L.A. it's mostly via phone calls and texting. I am also close to my sister in Chicago and my brother in Sonoma so I travel a lot. I love to read. I'm the ultimate multi-tasker -- I read my Kindle on the plane to see my people and scope out boutiques at my destination!
Visit sweetiepiejewelry.com to check out the line and start your collection of fabulous jewelry!

Best Bubble Bath Series: Archipelago Botanicals Sugar Bubble Bath
For the past six years, I lived in an apartment without a bathtub -- only a stall shower. A travesty for any beauty-obsessed woman who just wants to take a bubble bath once in awhile! Luckily, my new apartment has a gorgeous bathtub, which led me to test some of the most luxurious bubble baths on the market. Here are my findings.
A sugar-scented bubble bath that's not too saccharine or sweet? I'd say it couldn't be done, until I tried Archipelago Botanicals Sugar Bubble Bath.
This huge bottle -- seriously, it's 32.5 ounces -- contains a bubble bath that's as rich and foamy as it is intriguingly scented. A few capfuls and my bathtub was swimming in deliciously scented bubbles!
And aside from the bubble bath creating a lot of bathtime fun with mountains of bubbles everywhere, it actually treats the skin right, too. Alpha hydroxy acids, vanilla extracts and brown sugar cleanse and moisturize the skin -- so when you step out of the tub, your entire body feels baby soft and smooth.
If only this bubble bath came with a dozen sugar cookies! Oh well, nobody's perfect.
Archipelago Botanicals Sugar Bubble Bath retails for $22 at archipelago-usa.com.

Mani of the Week: Newspaper Nails
Lately, I've been wanting to experiment more with nail art. And while I'm definitely a novice -- and don't have a steady enough hand to create very intricate designs as of yet -- I really wanted to try newspaper nails this week. Luckily, this is a type of nail art that's so easy, anyone can do it!
I began with two coats of Deborah Lippmann Fashion, which is my favorite nude nail polish. I recommend nude, though you really can use any color as the base -- but lighter colors like grey, nude or white would be best so the newspaper print will show up against them.
After letting the polish dry completely -- which is important, because otherwise they'll smudge and the newspaper print won't show up -- the fun part began. One by one, I dipped my nails into a little cup of rubbing alcohol for 5 seconds. While the nail was still wet with alcohol, I then pressed a strip of newspaper onto the nail and held it there for 15 seconds.
When I removed the newspaper strip, voila! Newspaper nails. To keep the design intact and add glossiness back to the manicure (since the glossy finish rubs off with the newspaper print), I finished with a coat of Seche Vite.
All in all, this manicure was really easy to do and only took about 5 minutes longer than a normal manicure! I highly recommend trying it for a unique look that will definitely get people talking!

My First Attempt at Water Marbling Using OPI Jade is the New Black
I've been wanting to try water marbling for the longest time. I knew it was supposed to be difficult, but I still had the highest hopes that my first try would be absolutely perfect.
The whole water marbling process is definitely pretty intense. You need to pour filtered water into a cup and then drop different polishes into it. After the blobs are all dropped in, you swirl it around in the water to create a design. Then you tape up your fingers with three pieces of tape to make sure the polish only gets on your nail, not all over your hands. And then you dip your nails into the water, where the design makes its way onto your nail.
Well, it wasn't perfect, but I did really enjoy the process! I went with OPI Jade is the New Black -- I kept my first water marbling attempt pretty simple with just one color -- and I absolutely love how it made my thumbnail look. The rest of my nails were an absolute disaster, but at least I got one right!
I can't wait to try water marbling again, and with more colors the next time. Have you tried it before? How did it go for you?

Mani of the Week: OPI Jade is the New Black with Fresh Frog Of Bel Air
Although I was starting to feel like I was over green nail polish, OPI Fresh Frog Of Bel Air (from the line's new Muppets Collection, out now) changed my mind. This polish -- a combination of green micro glitter and silver hex glitter -- is so glitzy and glamorous, it was just dying for a polish job. But, since I usually don't like glitters by themselves on my nails, I decided to layer it on top of one of my favorite colors of all time, OPI Jade is the New Black. The creamy green hue is absolutely perfect and so, SO chic.
I'm loving the two greens layered together, especially with the silver glitter thrown into the mix. I feel so uber-glam this week!
What's on your nails? Let me know in the comments!

Johnson's Baby Products Challenge: Johnson's Baby Shampoo
I've long been a fan of Johnson's. One might say it was my first foray into beauty products, since my mom shampooed my hair with the baby shampoo when I was a baby! Recently, Johnson's asked me to take on a four-week challenge using their baby products on myself and report the findings. Check out how it's been going!
Since I started my love of beauty products with Johnson's Baby Shampoo, it seems only fitting that I introduce it into my rotation for the month!
Now, here's the thing. While I could use it as a gentle shampoo on myself, I wanted to try it in some unconventional ways. My grandma and mom have always told me that Johnson's Baby Shampoo works wonders on stains -- and, since I'm admittedly klutzy, I did have some small stains on clothes I wanted to try and remove. Imagine my delight when, lo and behold, the stains were gone after I let the clothing soak in the sink with a touch of shampoo rubbed into the spots!
I've also taken to washing my delicates in the sink with Johnson's. Since it's formulated to work on babies' hair, it's perfect for the most delicate of items in my wardrobe. Plus they smell fantastic once they're clean!
And here's something that might shock you. I'm not very good at remembering to clean my makeup brushes. Luckily, a dollop of Johnson's Baby Shampoo rubbed into the brushes and run under water and voila! Clean brushes that are sanitized and ready for shimmery eyeshadow.
Johnson's Baby Shampoo retails for $3.14 at cvs.com.

My New Favorite Site: farfetch.com
My name is Jamie and I'm a shopaholic. Well, at this point I think I'm in recovery, but certain designers and websites still make my knees go weak. And that's exactly how I feel about farfetch.com.
I first noticed this British website when I was searching for items on ShopStyle. Every designer I love kept showing up on the site, from 3.1 Phillip Lim and Bottega Veneta to Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen. And once I started really perusing the site, well, all bets were off.
Take, for example, dresses by one of my all-time favorite designers, See By Chloe. (The patterned silk dress above is just one option available to you.) On any given day, there are at least 20 different dresses alone to choose from!
I also love how easy the site is to navigate. Simply click on a designer or on a category -- like Women's Dresses, for instance -- and you're instantly transported to page after page of absolute fabulousnss. I personally like to just go to Women's Clothing and browse hundreds of pages of the most fabulous clothing around. There's the option to sort by price, of course, and you can also shop by category, size or designer.
I hope you'll share my enthusiasm for farfetch.com -- it truly is one of the most fantastic websites for designer fashion!

Johnson's Baby Products Challenge: Johnson's Baby Powder
I've long been a fan of Johnson's. One might say it was my first foray into beauty products, since my mom shampooed my hair with the baby shampoo when I was a baby! Recently, Johnson's asked me to take on a four-week challenge using their baby products on myself and report the findings. Check out how it's been going!
In the past week, I've experienced a revelation in my beauty routine. And it's all thanks to Johnson's Baby Powder. While I always thought this was just to keep babies from experiencing diaper rash or chafing, I quickly learned that there are many uses for grownups, too!
I decided to start by trying it out as a dry shampoo. I experimented with shaking it into my hands and then smoothing it over my hair, and with shaking it directly onto my roots before brushing through. Both ways worked, as long as I wasn't TOO generous with the shaking -- and my roots were grease-free for at least an extra day, which meant I could stretch my blowout longer than I expected!
I also tried the baby powder as an alternative to baking soda in my shoes. My TOMS in particular tend to get pretty odorous after awhile, so I shook some baby powder in them overnight and let it set. Lo and behold, they smelled fantastic in the morning!
I'm really loving the chance to try these Johnson's Baby products in new and different ways ... and the fact that they're all super inexpensive! Have you tried Johnson's Baby Powder on yourself? What did you think?
Johnson's Baby Powder retails for $1.99 at walgreens.com.
