I’m excited to be writing for The Beauty of Life again, this time as a West Coast Correspondent. Yes, The Beauty of Life has gone national! What better way to kickoff than with a special music festival series. The next few days will feature Coachella makeup looks, personally tested over the first weekend so you are guaranteed to look (and stay) gorgeous over the second weekend of music and fun. Who’s afraid of water, sweat and wind now? I would love to hear your own Coachella makeup tips in the comment section below. Happy Coachella!

Day 1 at Coachella begins!

Day 1
92 degrees day/66 degrees night. Sweaty. Danced through the Do Lab sprinklers a few times.
My makeup look for day 1 (as you can see, I had lots of fun!)

Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow in Zodiac
No disco ball here -- this is grownup glitter! The new Moondust eyeshadows have a beautiful metallic shimmer, balanced by a rich, multidimensional base color. Depending on the light, this Zodiac color either looks like a dark green grey or an iridescent mermaid tail. Gorgeous! This is now my go-to for a sophisticated smoky eye, lightly refreshing from the traditional matte black smoky eye. The shadow lasted all day, even without primer.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Loaded
I’m weary of pencil liners because sometimes the pencils dry up and take a few warmup strokes to get the right consistency. Not so with this lovely cream formula! The texture is almost gel-like and really does glide on with no tugging whatsoever. This forest green had just a hint of sparkle, which surprisingly did not irritate my contacts at all. Best part of all, it really did stay on the whole day. The bottom liner did venture just a tad to the south, but not to the point of raccoon eyes. And with new shades added to the lineup, there are now 40 beautiful colors to choose from.

Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara
I cannot sing enough praises for this holy grail of mascaras! The application was smooth and easy. The bristles spiral around the brush to coat and separate each lash. I have stick straight lashes and even with miracle eyelash curlers and powerful mascara claims, if I so much as shake my head, my lashes will fall flat. Imagine my complete delight (I think I gasped aloud) when I looked in the mirror 10 hours hours later and found my lashes jet black and perfectly curled. No flakes, no clumps, just doll-like lashes.

Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor in Hot Plum
I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to wear purple lipstick. This vivid violet was a great pop of bright color and perfect for music festival fun. It was on the purple side of fuchsia, which made this plum color surprisingly wearable, even flattering! The non-drying formula stayed in place without bleeding. It was richly pigmented and only needed one swipe of color to last for hours. Comes in 10 colors!

Comparison between the start of the day and when I got home at 1am. Makeup stayed on for the whole day!
