Salon and Spa Directory: Larchmont Sanctuary Spa

The word "sanctuary" immediately brings me the feeling of peace and calm. So, when I was invited into Larchmont Sanctuary Spa, I Was definitely hoping for peace and calm to overtake me! Luckily, this spa delivered a true sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of regular life in spades.

Larchmont Sanctuary Spa is located in, as one might guess, the Larchmont neighborhood of Los Angeles. From the moment you approach it on Larchmont Boulevard, you already feel more relaxed, thanks to the bubbling fountain and beautiful foliage outside. Then you step through the doors, and the sanctuary-like atmosphere just continues!

I was honestly blown away by the attention to detail throughout the spa. There are so many little touches and additions that really make Larchmont Sanctuary Spa go above and beyond in the traditional spa experience. They have really thought everything through, not just in the treatments you receive (which are INCREDIBLE), but in ensuring you will have the most relaxing experience possible.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy three different treatments during my time at Larchmont Sanctuary Spa: the Coppertino Bath Experience, Jade Stone Massage Therapy, and Ultimate Vitamin Therapy (Signature Facial). All three were so unique, and helped me feel rejuvenated from head to toe! But, of course, my experience began in the locker room and relaxation area, both of which completely exceeded my expectations!

The locker room has all the amenities you could want or hope for, in addition to secure lockers with unique four digit codes. But what I really loved was the selection of robes and slippers. I loved that the slipper sizes were all given their own little cubbies, and that the robes were SO. FREAKING. COMFORTABLE. They also were big enough for women who aren't a size 2, which I definitely appreciated.

After getting into my robe and slippers, I entered the relaxation area. This massive room off the front lobby has EVERYTHING you would possibly desire for de-stressing and unwinding pre and post treatment! From multiple seating areas (including fainting couches and loveseats) and calming accoutrements like singing bowls to delicious snacks and berry-infused water, this is such a welcome respite from the schedule and structure of the outside world. Before my treatments even began, I already felt my cares and stress melting away just by spending time in this bright and airy room.

And then, of course, my treatments began. If you thought I was relaxed and happy before, well, I basically just melted into a puddle of rejuvenated bliss after my few hours here!

The Coppertino Bath Experience
I began with this 20-minute experience, which you can add on to any service. I've experienced hydrotherapy before, but this was a completely unique take on it. I was led to a private room with an oversized copper tub, with black stones and candles laid all around it. The tub had been half filled, so that it wasn't too hot or too cold, and I was able to fill it the rest of the way to my liking. (I made it HOT.) Once I was completely immersed in the water, which was infused with soothing essential oils and healing algae-essence, I relaxed, laid back, and let the water do its thing.

More copper tub enjoyment! After this, I put my phone away and let the healing waters do their thing.

I tend to get a little bored or even claustrophobic in hydrotherapy tubs, but I just let myself relax and enjoy it, especially because there were jets jettisoning out water along the sides (which I used on my sore lower back and my right ankle). The jets turn off when it's time to towel off, so you don't have to worry about looking at a clock. I enjoyed my time in the tub so much that I was actually shocked when the jets clicked off!

Jade Stone Massage Therapy
Then it was time for my massage. This massage not only combines acupressure and reflexology, but uses both hot and cold carved jade gemstones to balance your yin and yang. Sam, my massage therapist, expertly kneaded my sore and tight muscles while incorporating the stones at just the right moments. I had been holding a lot of tightness in my lower back, neck and shoulders, and this massage helped alleviate so much of the pressure I'd been feeling! Sam's strokes were even and just deep enough to relieve the pressure without causing additional pain. I also loved when she rested the hot stones on my lower back while she continued to work on my arms and legs -- what a delightful treat! I left the massage table in a state of relaxation and bliss I honestly hadn't felt in WEEKS.

This massage is $175 for 75 minutes (additional times and prices are available), and is one of the spa's most popular treatments.

Ultimate Vitamin Therapy (Signature Facial)
As soon as I read the description of this facial on Larchmont Sanctuary Spa's website, I knew I had to try it. I'll let you read it for yourself so you can see why I was so intrigued:

It just sounded too unique to pass up! My esthetician, Laura, was INCREDIBLE. Not only did she customize this facial just for my skin type, but she ensured that my skin looked and felt amazing by the time the treatment was done. This facial usually comes with a peel, but because I was nervous about how my skin might react, Laura replaced it with an additional collagen mask to bring hydration and firmness back to my skin. This treatment also incorporated a mask that went over my eyes, which I thought might be overwhelming or claustrophobic -- but it actually was very calming, especially because Laura gave me an upper body massage at the same time. And, what I REALLY loved about this treatment? Laura's extractions! Extractions are never the most fun part of a facial, but Laura's were PAINLESS. It felt like a light massage. Unbelievable!

This treatment is $215 for 90 minutes.

Larchmont Sanctuary Spa is just that -- a sanctuary. After my day here, all of my stress melted away, my skin looked amazing, and I felt ready to re-enter the land of the living! I cannot recommend this place highly enough. This spa is a true gem!
