I had the chance to meet the lovely Ms. Monique Lhuillier backstage during makeup and hair prep, and I got to say, she is gor-ge-ous! Monique wanted to create a visual story for her fashion show presentation at Christie’s Auction House. Her dresses were inspired by a “warrior meets safari” look, filled with rich colors like gold, brown and turquoise. Get all the details after the jump.
Nadine Luke for M.A.C worked those colors into the makeup look with strong, blue-brown smokyy eyes as the focus. She drew inspiration from the dresses; encapsulating the movement of the dresses with a sense of fluidity in the eye makeup by using lots of layering, blending and long wisps of color at the outer corners. Nadine explained, “I wanted to create a look that says I’m here!” For such a dramatic effect, she layered M.A.C Eyeshadow in Club with Eye Kohl in Smolder and Pearl Glide in Molasses. She kept cheeks clean with M.A.C Powder Blush in Peaches and lips completely natural.
Laurent Philippon for Bumble and Bumble wanted to contrast the red carpet dresses with a rock and roll hair look. He wanted to create an image of a “tough girl,” someone secure enough to rock her own looks even in couture. He created a high, slightly crimped ponytail with a tiny faux hawk of volume on top. To do this at home, he instructs parting the top part of your hair from the middle of your eyebrows. Tie the rest of the hair in a super tight ponytail. Add volume and texture to the sectioned off piece with Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode, and secure the section to the ponytail with another hair tie. To add volume to the ponytail, spray on Bumble and bumble Does It All and finish with a bit of Bumble and bumble Shine. Voila!
The look for Monique Lhuillier was seriously red carpet drama in the most perfect way! LOVE!
