Direct from the Runway: Mackage Fall 2010

What a great start to Fall 2010 Fashion Week! I headed backstage at Mackage early this morning to chat with Anthony Barrow for Avon and Nobuko Yamada for Shiseido. Both told me that the inspiration came from a very successful, strong and powerful woman -- but Anthony said it’s “the perfectly imperfect look.” Keep reading for all the details.

“It’s simple, but for being simple it’s pretty complicated too!” Anthony Barrow told me backstage. “[This] very successful woman has been out the night before, she’s got her hairdo. The morning after, she’s busy busy busy, she’s just refining the hairdo -- simple as that.”

To create the look, Anthony prepped the hair with Avon Advance Techniques Volumizing Mousse. He then created a very low part that traversed the scalp and sculpted the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, using both Avon Advance Techniques Shaping Gel and Avon Advance Techniques Moisture Sleek Smoothing Serum. He added this in by degrees “because it’s second day hair,” he told me. “It’s a little bit of pillowhead.”

Anthony finished the look with Avon Advance Techniques Mirror Shine Spray.

Nobuko Yamada was very brief in her description of the look, but she basically created a strong, smoky eye using three Shiseido products. She focused on the eyes with a black liner, shimmery black shadow and an eye gloss for added texture. She finished the look with matte skin and a very pale tone on the lips. “It’s a strong, powerful woman,” she told me.

  1. I love those eyes! And they are right on with the hair. I have done that myself many a time. Gunked up morning after ponytails sometimes earn the best compliments
