4 Beauty Tips I Should Follow (But Don't Always, Shhh)

You know those beauty tips you're always reading in magazines and on blogs like this one? Like wash your face every day, don't take hot showers in the winter, et cetera? Well, I'm here to tell you that while you should be doing them all the time, it's darn near impossible to be that perfect with your beauty routine. And no one is perfect, including this beauty chick! Read on to find out which beauty tips I know I should be sure to do religiously ... but sometimes just fall short.

Get at least 8 nights of sleep every night.
If I did this every day, I'm sure that not only would I be more rested, but my migraines might lessen slightly and the dark circles under my eyes would be a heck of a lot lighter. But I've always felt that if I go to sleep before midnight, I'm missing something in the day! I'm lucky if I get 7 hours of sleep, but my sleep pattern is by no means consistent.

Don't take really long, hot showers in the winter.
Now, I try to take fairly short showers to begin with. But I can think of nothing better than coming in from a 14-degree day and standing under the hot water for over 10 minutes. In the winter, though, this severely dries out the skin since you're alternating between such extremes. Cold showers are out of the question, but I guess I could limit my winter scaldings to five minutes or less.

Exfoliate and use a face mask regularly.
To be fair, my skin likes it best when it's left alone. But, especially since I travel so much, I do need to exfoliate and use a face mask once a week. Chalk it up to laziness here -- I just usually can't be bothered! Although, not so shockingly, I've used two different face masks this week and my skin is baby soft without a flake in sight.

Use a moisturizer every day.
Much like the tip above, I know I should be moisturizing regularly. But sometimes I forget, sometimes I'm in a rush, sometimes I just plain don't have one I really want to use. And it's a vicious cycle, because then my skin gets drier and drier, and even using face masks and exfoliating don't help -- it's time for the Triple Oxygen Treatment at Bliss!

  1. I don't follow most of the above either, although I do manage to moisturize every day... but my biggest fail is cleaning my makeup brushes as often as I ought to. Or anywhere near it.
