Bun in the Oven: Trying Out a High Bun!

When I was in 8th grade, I mastered the art of the high bun. We're talking RIGHT on top of the head and usually accentuated by an oversized, colorful scrunchie. Mind you, this was 1994 and not a time most people were wearing high buns in good 'ol South Euclid, Ohio ... so I stuck out just a bit. (What can I say, I've always been ahead of the fashion and beauty times.)

Well, fast forward to now, and I really don't ever wear my hair this way. Maybe I'm not as dextrous as my 14-year-old self, maybe I just don't want to spend the time, but trying to wrangle my long locks into a high bun is honestly the last thing I want to do most days. Last night, however, I tried out the style once again -- mainly because after a massage and a facial at Exhale, my hair was decidedly worse for wear (and with an impending haircut in the morning, washing it was the last thing on my mind.)

Above, my take on the high bun. Not quite at the top of my head as my 1994 bun would have been, but fairly up there nonetheless! (And no scrunchie in sight, thank you very much.) I will admit that this bun was not easily done -- it took about 5 tries before my ponytail twisted around, sat correctly on my head, spread out evenly from the center and didn't leave any bumps. But I'm pretty happy with the results!

What do you think of the high bun? Is it a style you would try or one you wear frequently? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I don't wear it frequently but I'd like to try. I'm not sure my hair so long enough, it comes to my collarbone.
