As you can see from the photo above, I was pretty proud of this look. Judging from the braces (which I'm betting had alternating red and white rubber bands), I think this was around 1992 or 1993, so I was 12 or 13.
This top was a piece de resistance in my wardrobe. I wore it ALL. THE. TIME. WITH. EVERYTHING. With shorts, with skirts, with jeans, under overalls ... I couldn't get enough of it. I loved that it had a zipper down the front with a ring-shaped pull, and I loved the cropped fit.
Shorts over tights were huge back then, as was wearing big socks over the tights. And, as you can see, I always, ALWAYS wore a pin and earrings. (My 7th grade teacher actually nicknamed me "The Pin and Earring Queen.")
This was definitely during my phase of wearing only red, black and white. I was inspired by the character Stephanie in the series Sleepover Friends, who wore those three colors exclusively -- I just thought she was so cool. (I also wanted to dress like a mix of Claudia and Stacey in The Baby-Sitters Club. But come on, who didn't?) My earrings were red and black houndstooth, and my watch had a red band. I definitely stuck to a theme.
And yes, those are oversized, high waisted, slouchy shorts. Hey, like I said, it was the 90's.
I absolutely love this post, and what a total cutie you were! LOVE IT!

ReplyDeleteAdorable! My favorite outfit from that time was neon green leggings- with slouch socks of course- and a huge white sweatshirt with a maid on the front. Her lace apron lifted up- like the one Joan Cusac wore in Sixteen Candles. Most stylish seven year old ever!
