At the time, I was all about box color. (Hello, L'Oreal Feria -- I'm looking at you.) I decided I wanted to start dyeing my hair red -- I've already told you about my obsession with red tresses -- and, of course, I wanted it to stand out. I finally decided upon a deep cherry red hue, which my best friend Katie helped me apply during her visit to IU that spring. (Shoutout to somehow sleeping together in a twin bed and not killing each other that weekend!)
As you can see from the photos above, I went from dark brown to deep red in a matter of minutes! But here are the images again in succession...
The before picture. Yes, I had a pixie cut. And brown hair, once upon a time. |
During the process. I was obviously not excited at all. (Sorry for the washed out quality, but that's what you get from a disposable camera.) |
The finished product! I was finally a redhead! |
I was just SO EXCITED about finally having dyed my hair -- and finally being a redhead to boot! This definitely sent me down the hair color spiral that I'm still in today. And, let's face it -- that spiral isn't disappearing anytime soon.
And yes, I was wearing an oversized flannel shirt and mismatched flannel pants. Come on, it was 1999.
I love it! I went through a few red phases myself!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Thanks for the inspiration. I should do something similar. When I first went red, I did it at a salon in NYC that I randomly picked. Mistake. My hair sorta faded to a pink shade. I had it redone in London at Vidal Sassoon, and it took 3 dyings before the color took. It was a saga, but it sure was red. Still love red hair!
ReplyDeleteYou look good with the red! I've been thinking about trying but I'm scurrrrrred lol
ReplyDeleteLove it! The first time I dyed my hair was platinum blonde highlights, which I kept for 2 hours for a party, and then dyed it back to my natural hair color. It was quite exhilarating to say, the least! Red looks good on you! <3
ReplyDeleteaw this was adorable!! I loooove dying my hair red!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I remember wanting to dye my hair so badly at that age to, but having black hair made it almost impossible.
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous red... and I love that cut on you... super cute ;)
ReplyDeleteDarn it... I pressed enter too quickly. lol I love going red... it goes so well with my skintone... but I always go red in fall and then want to go light brown in summer and I'm screwed because I can't remove the red. lmao I looked like a strawberry banana one year so I haven't gone red in about 2-3 years because I am afraid. lmao
