Throwback Thursday: The Height of 00's Fashion and Beauty

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, the height of 00's fashion and beauty, 2000's fashion, 2000's beauty, pixie cut, elbow-length shirt, patterned bell bottoms, blow up furniture
One of the good things about staying at my mom's while my ankle heals is the opportunity to go through all my old photos. Well, I discovered this one, and it sure is a gem. This was me in 2001, taken in my dorm room right after my 21st birthday, and I'd say it perfectly represents the height of 00's fashion and beauty. I mean, just look at everything going on here...

1) My pixie cut. I modeled it after Gwyneth Paltrow's cut in Sliding Doors (one of my favorite movies to this day). Once I chopped my hair off, I never looked back. Although growing it out sure was a pain in the you know what. But I really did love this haircut, especially since I looked so young at the time that I felt it at least helped me look like I was in my upper teens. I was 21 and pretty sick of being carded all the time. Imagine that. Now if I don't get carded I think there's something wrong with my moisturizer.

2) The blow up furniture. Yes, I had a silver blow up armchair. Yes, I bought it at Spencer Gifts. Yes, I loved it. Yes, it was impossible to get comfortable while sitting on it. No, I didn't care. Does that answer all your questions?

3) The tight elbow-length shirt. I HAD SO MANY OF THESE. This was one of my favorites, though. It was soft and shiny, and I wore it with EVERYTHING. Plus, I just thought the elbow-length sleeves were SO much cooler than either short, three-quarter or long. They were DIFFERENT.

4) The patterned bell bottoms. OH MY GOD. Why on earth did I ever think these were a good idea? I think I bought them from Delia*s (R.I.P.) and I seriously was so excited when they arrived. Then I think I wore them a grand total of three times, because I could never figure out a) how to wear them or b) what to wear them with. I think I always wore this shirt with them, because it was the only item I had that actually matched the colors in the pattern. Plus, someone as short as I am should never wear bell bottoms. Period.

So there you have it. The height of 00's fashion and beauty, all in one picture. Pretty incredible.

Did you try out any of these trends? Or did you have others from the 00's that you loved? Let me know in the comments!

  2. Adorable photo! I love your haircut. So cute. I also looked like I was 12 when I was 21 so I feel your pain. But it serves you well as you get older

  5. Are you me?! Sliding Doors is one of my favorite movies and I had sooooo many of those tight, elbow length t-shirts!! (My college days were the mid-00's). I remember wearing my favorite one (navy blue) for my 21st birthday, lol. Anyway, cute picture! I love going through old photos.

  8. Adorable! I think we were twinning- I had a similar haircut that year and was all about 3/4 sleeve boat neck tops. I had about six, all the same, but in different colours. My blow up chair was metallic purple and came from Claire's.
