The #BoundingWithPride 2022 Challenge Wrapup!

Every June, I look forward to the #BoundingWithPride challenge hosted by @thedisneybound and @pixiedustedwithpride. Being an ally for the LGBTQIA+ community is extremely important to me — and I’m here to do that not just this week or during Pride Month, but all year long! This bounding challenge encourages people to build a rainbow by creating bounds every day featuring a different color of the Pride Flag. It's my third year participating in this challenge — here are the Disney characters I chose this year!

BLACK: YZMA FROM THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE

Yzma is one of those characters you just love to hate … or maybe you just love to love! She’s evil to the core, but somehow, you just don’t mind that. Maybe it’s because the fabulous Eartha Kitt voiced her, maybe it’s because I want to create potions like her, maybe it’s because I love her wardrobe. Whatever the case, she’s fabulous and I’m here for it!

BROWN: MR. POTATO HEAD FROM TOY STORY

This wisecracking potato is one of the best characters in the entire Toy Story franchise. He’s always got a one liner, and they’re guaranteed to make you laugh!

RED: SEBASTIAN FROM THE LITTLE MERMAID

Underneath Sebastian’s hard, crabby exterior, he really is a softie. He just wants the (mer)people he cares about to be happy, and to be loved. And that’s exactly how I feel about all of my friends in the LGBTQIA+ community! I will never stop swimming toward what’s right — and I might even sing a little along the way.

ORANGE: GEORGE SANDERSON (AKA THE 2319 MONSTER) FROM MONSTERS, INC.

 "2319! We have a 2319!" George is just one of those monsters who gets a bad break. He didn’t MEAN to have a sock stuck to his back! I also like that the color orange on the Pride Flag represents healing — and George definitely represents that!

YELLOW: JANE FROM TARZAN

On the Pride Flag, yellow represents sunlight. Jane feels very sunny to me — and it’s not just because of her signature yellow dress or the fact that once she meets Tarzan, she spends all her time in the sun! Her whole personality is sunny — she’s enthusiastic, bright, inquisitive, intelligent, empathetic. She truly shines as a character. As far as bringing her to life goes — I chose my banana earrings to represent her time in the jungle with Tarzan and his ape family. The purple purse represents her scarf. (Here’s a hack — it’s actually my Stoney Clover Lane rainbow purse turned around!)

GREEN: ELLIOTT FROM PETE'S DRAGON

“There’s room for everyone in this world. Back up and make some room. Let’s all move over and share this world — everyone make some room!” The words of this song always resonate with me. Our world is big enough that everyone — EVERYONE should feel loved and accepted. Green stands for nature on the Pride Flag. While Elliott might not actually BE nature, he does spend all of his time in it — and, when he first gets Pete away from the evil Gogans, that’s where they spend their time. Plus, if you expand nature to think of it as good natured, Elliott is that in spades! Always looking out for those who are downtrodden and helping them to find happiness and peace. I simply had to break out my Elliott popcorn bucket for this bound! I replicated his wings and fluffy hair with a pink headband and pink ruffled sandals.

BLUE: THE CATERPILLAR FROM ALICE IN WONDERLAND

“Whooo … areee … youuu?” I’ve actually wanted to bound as the Caterpillar for awhile — and it finally came together! Blue represents serenity on the Pride Flag — and I’d say the Caterpillar is pretty darn serene.

PURPLE: RAPUNZEL FROM TANGLED

“All at once, everything is different — now that I see you.” On the Pride Flag, purple represents spirit. Punzie has that in spades! She has the courage and determination to go after what she wants, and she inspires other people to do the same. She’s such a strong female character, and one I think we can all look up to.

PINK: MICHAEL DARLING FROM PETER PAN

"He flewed!" Michael is such a cute, precocious little thing. I had a lot of fun putting this bound together — especially when I found this super cute teddy bear purse! I mean really, how adorable is this?!
