Beauty Questions: What Is Your All-Time Scariest Makeup Moment?

In honor of Friday the Thirteenth -- by all accounts the scariest day of the year for many (and yes, it trumps Halloween!) -- this edition of Beauty Questions asks: What is your all-time scariest makeup look?

I've had many over the years -- I did grow up in the '80s, after all! And yes, I did the huge sprayed-to-the-side bangs, the blue eyeshadow up past my creases (paired with fuchsia lipstick, no less), and an awful feathered haircut that literally took three years to grow out. (Farrah Fawcett I was not.) But the absolute worst was definitely during high school. As a member of Show Choir, I was forced to wear not only a hideous sparkly teal dress, but matching eyeshadow. Yes, teal eyeshadow worn all the way up to my eyebrows. Oh my God, people. It was part of a Maybelline Eye Shadow Duo that doesn't exist anymore ... and you'd better believe I threw it away after that year of torture!

To be quite honest, I can't even post a picture of myself wearing the eyeshadow. It's too horrible. Instead, I've posted a picture of myself wearing gray eyeshadow up to my eyebrows (again for Show Choir, horrible but not quite as bad), goofing off with some friends in a hotel room during the Findlay Show Choir Festival in 1997. And yes, my T-shirt has the cast of Friends splashed across the front.

What's the makeup moment you would take back if you could? Let me know in the comments!

  2. Powder blue and black lipstick. From the drugstore. It was sheer. SHEER. Luckily it didn't go beyond my bathroom, but sheer powder blue lipstick! With matching eyeshadow! I don't know what I was thinking, beyond "ooh, I like blue!"

I can't wait to see what everyone else has to share -- if they dare!

  3. I once wore a bronzy colored blush.. So NOT sexy with my pale skin!

And bold red lipstick- I can't ever seem to pull it off.. warm, cool, or neutral, it just doesn't work with me.

  4. My scary beauty tale went something like this: metallic light blue eyeliner with baby pink opalescent lipstick, lots of powder and big hair, especially the bangs.

    Ahh, loved the 80's!

  5. Hey Jamie

Well, not exactly a makeup moment, but it's a real big beauty boo boo. I first started to tweeze my eyebrows and it was hideous. Each brow, instead of a single nice arch, looks like double pronged at the beginning. I have no idea how it happened, but it took me a long time to finally realise I, indeed, have mutated eyebrows. Luckily, there were eyebrow pencils to the rescue!!
