Direct from the Runway: Makeup Artist Tom Pecheux at Badgley Mischka

When you get the opportunity to interview makeup genius Tom Pecheux, you take it. And so at Badgley Mischka, I most certainly took advantage of the chance to pick his brain about the unbelievably gorgeous makeup seen on the models. "This season the collection is more pure than usually," he told me. "Less print, beautiful jewelry. The clothes are amazing too. Not much of color, but the few colors are just really, really nice."

To accent the new direction of Mark Badgley and James Mischka (who, consequently, walked around backstage right while I was there!), Pecheux decided to create a look that would not be too strong. "More like a cocktail in the evening makeup," he said. He used a palette of bluish grey with a texture between matte and shimmery, mixing three of the colors in the palette with a grey and finishing with a matte texture on top to make it more subtle. He then used a M.A.C Mineralize Eyeshadow on top of it for a bit of shimmer. "The eye is a bit smoky, but only on the top," Pecheux said. This color related back to a color in the collection, which showed up in a few pieces that came down the runway.

Pecheux finished with M.A.C Ever Rich Lipgloss -- "I would call it a milk lavender," he told me -- and kept the skin matte with a bit of definition on the eyebrows. "Elegance, richness," Pecheux said. It most certainly was.
