Feel Like a Princess: The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

This past weekend, I celebrated a milestone birthday. And to really do it up right, I decided to celebrate in the one place I could truly be a kid -- Walt Disney World! I went with my best friend for five days of fun in the (kind of) sun (it rained and was fairly cold part of the time!) ... and while we were there, we kept seeing little girls with sparkly princess hairdos. After consulting our guidebook, we learned that they had gone to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in the Magic Kingdom, conveniently located right at the foot of Cinderella's Castle.

So you know what? We decided to go and have our hair done, too! On my birthday, we walked in and were greeted by fairy godmothers waiting to whisk us away to the salon. My fairy godmother, Kendra, was super sweet and reassured my fears that I was the only adult who had ever set foot in the boutique -- she told me at least 10 percent of the clientele is made up of adults just like me, and even a 96-year-old had come to have her hair done!

Once seated atop my royal blue throne, I was given three choices of hairstyles: Pop Princess, Disney Diva or Fairytale Princess. Which one do you think I picked? If you went with Fairytale Princess, you'd be right!

Thus started the process of pulling my hair into a tight, intricate bun -- Kendra slicked my tresses back with a wide-toothed comb, sprayed them with her "magic potions" (i.e. hairspray) and then pulled them into a ponytail. She then separated the ponytail into multiple sections and wound it into a bun right at the top of my head.

The "crowning" moment? When I got to pick out my very own tiara! I went for one with light pink stones, which she delicately placed right at the base of the bun. I also got a barrette shaped like Mickey Ears, with stones denoting the colors of all the Disney Princesses, which was placed at the back of the bun.

And the finishing touch? Pixie dust, of course! Kendra had me hold up a "magic mirror" (a plastic covering to protect my face) as she dusted my entire head with gleaming, glistening sparkles. I really and truly felt like a princess -- especially when I had my makeup done and was even given glittery sparkles for my face!

This treatment is perfect for any girl -- child or fully grown! -- who wants to feel like a princess. And, let's be honest -- who doesn't? I'm so glad I spent my birthday this way, it really made me feel special!

Waiting to see the daily parade with Katie after we had our hair done. If you look closely, you can see the blue fairy dust on my bun!

Enjoying dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table. This was right after they brought out a surprise dessert that my brother had ordered from afar! And, yes, I was crying.

There are multiple packages to choose from at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. I went for the Coach Package, which retails for $49.95. For more information, visit disneyworld.com.

    1. Unfortunately I'm not sure! I haven't been to Disney World in many years, so I don't know if it's still open to adults. I would recommend calling to ask!
