Salt of the Earth: HALO/AIR Salt Rooms

HALO/AIR Salt Rooms, salt room, salt rooms, salt, spa, salon and spa directory, spa treatment, salt treatment
Last night, I was invited to the launch of a new spa concept in NYC: HALO/AIR Salt Rooms. Now, this is not a traditional spa in any sense of the word. There are no actual treatments here -- you simply sit in a lounge chair inside a fairly sparse room, and you're given the option to watch TV, work on your laptop and otherwise relax.

Now, you may wonder what makes this space so unique. One thing and one thing only: salt. Each of the five treatment rooms are MADE of salt -- the walls are salt, the floor is salt, the AIR is salt.

What can this do for you, you may ask? Salt rooms are filled with Salt Aerosol, pumped in continuously to produce an environment that is capable of clearing airways and reviving the skin. Salt rooms can benefit people with everything from chronic pulmonary diseases like asthma, cystic fibrosis and pneumonia to sinus allergies and laryngitis. They can even help to clear up pesky skin issues like acne and psoriasis, not to mention clearing out the lungs of people battling tobacco addiction.

Do you think these salt rooms are worth their, well, salt yet? I've certainly been convinced -- and I can't wait to head back for my first appointment! (Which, of course, I will be documenting for all of you.)

One 60-minute treatment at HALO/AIR Salt Rooms is $100. For more information, check out haloair.com.
