Minimalism has proven to reign the runways this season -- and last night, Narciso Rodriguez became its king.
Flashes of coral and pale green were grounded in a serene palette of grey, black and the dominant color emerging for spring, white. Where others have been overusing these minimalist hues, Rodriguez's collection was a vision of loveliness and ethereal beauty.
Bias-cut dresses and jackets indicative of Rodriguez's immense skill for tailoring and a pair of high-waist trousers in precisely cut linen were true standouts, while see-through tanks fit right in with the season's emerging sheer trend. A dress with a sequined bronze top did seem out of place within the confines of this collection, but on its own was a true showstopper. As two gowns of nude and blush silk closed the show and Rodriguez took his well-deserved bow, smiling showgoers including Claire Danes, Courtney Love and Sarah Jessica Parker (accompanied by Vogue's Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington) applauded in earnest.
