From gotta have 'em beauty tips to a look inside her makeup bag, beauty blogger Kim Smith of Makeup By Kim Porter consistently delivers must-read content that keeps me coming back for more. Read on to find out which tinted moisturizer she can't live without, her number one beauty tip and so much more.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I’m Brooklyn born and raised, but recently moved to the suburbs. I went to Hofstra University and completed my B.S. degree in Community Health. I currently work in the field of managed care, as well as freelance as a makeup artist, and manage two blogs: Makeup by Kim Porter and Beauty and the Bump. Oh, and I’m a mom of a three year old who’s entertaining and full of energy, and a wife. I guess you can say it’s rare that I’m not busy.

How did you first become interested in beauty, and what led you to create your own blog?
My interest in beauty started when I was young. I’d say upon entering JHS, which was when I began my bi-weekly hair salon appointments, and testing out different hairstyles. And then, high school and prom came when I purchased my first M.A.C eyeshadows, powder and lipgloss. After college, I was introduced to more makeup, especially during my partying days. I can’t go out without looking cute, right? Anyway, I’d experiment with more M.A.C, some of my mom’s department store makeup, and drugstore brands like Milani, until I got better.

After college, I landed my first full-time job, and a year later (2008) Wall street tanked, and I lost my job. During my time off I figured I can use the time to share my love and interest of beauty, makeup and skincare. I also discovered that I wanted to pursue makeup artistry professionally, so I began to chronicle my journey through posts and videos.

My second blog, Beauty and the Bump, arose after becoming pregnant. I wanted to write about my pregnancy, and journey to motherhood, but keep it separate from my other blog, which had a strict emphasis on beauty. Beauty and the Bump covers everything from my skincare and makeup routine as a mom to lifestyle posts and reviews.

I love the name of your blog! How did you come up with it?
My first blog, Makeup by Kim Porter is blah. It’s just my name. However, I do love Beauty and the Bump. I had a little bit more time to come up with something catchy, and what I thought was cute.

What are your top 3 beauty tips?

1) Stay hydrated.

2) Keep your skin clean. Wash twice daily, especially at night, to rid your skin of dirt and grime from the day.

3) I’m a fan of good, clean, white teeth. After brushing and flossing, I rinse with a solution of diluted peroxide to keep my teeth pearly white, and help keep my breath fresh.

Being a blogger must be fun, but what do you do in your spare time?
What spare time? Seriously, any spare time I have I use to get some quality time with my daughter and/or husband, get some rest and have brunch if I can with my husband or friends. I also spend a good amount of time on Pinterest looking for home decor ideas since we just purchased a house.
