Sparkletastic Mani: Essie Hors D'Ouevres and Pinkadelic

It's Friday, so why not change my manicure? And, while I'm at it, why not make it super duper sparkly? Well, that's exactly what I decided to do today. I'm headed into a long weekend -- one that I hope is filled with equal parts fun and relaxation -- and I thought there was no better time to add a little pizazz to my nails. Enter the duo of Essie Hors D'Ouevres and Essie Pinkadelic.

First of all, can I just say that even though I took 10 years of French, and even though I'm an awesome speller, hors d'ouevres is one of the hardest words I've ever had to spell. (That's really neither here nor there, but I thought it worth pointing out.) But, that aside, Essie Hors D'Ouevres is one of those colors that just draws you in immediately and never lets go. Seriously, just look at that glitter! This color was originally part of the Holiday 2014 Encrusted Treasures Collection, and I think I owned it at one point but lost it without ever swatching. (Cue the tears.) Thankfully, my friend Julie came to the rescue this week when she pulled a bottle of this stunner out of her purse!

What I really love about this polish is that it's a mix of gold and silver shimmer. I don't find polishes like that too often -- in fact, the only other one that finds a delicate balance for me is Deborah Lippmann Believe. This one definitely leans more silver, thanks to the silver hexagonal glitter particles, but in certain lights it reads more gold, too.

Julie actually recommended wearing one coat of Hors D'Oeuvres over a light shimmery pink to really make it pop. I liked that idea, so I had her hand over her bottle of Essie Pinkadelic, too. This color is from so long ago that I actually don't even know what collection it may have come from -- or if it came from one at all. It's a really beautiful pale pink with just a hint of lighter pink shimmer running through it. Two coats would be perfect for a barely there mani, if that's your cup of tea.

Am I ready for a fun weekend? Well, thanks to this mani, I think it's off to a pretty good start already!

  2. How pretty! And what a great undie color instead of just loading your nails with glitter and then having to scrub it all off and possibly peel your nails!
