For me, looking my best during an important event is all about self confidence. And this comes from the perfect hair and makeup, of course! I always look for a dress that will make me feel gorgeous inside and out -- and I usually get some sort of a curly blowout or braided look, since I'm admittedly not always the best at doing my hair myself. (It took me about 32 years to master the super straight look thanks to a flat iron, so I leave more complicated stuff to the pros). I have to admit that having a curly blowout always makes me feel fabulous!
I've had a few events recently that I would classify as red carpet moments. From celebrating my 35th birthday in two different locations (come on, a girl's gotta go big or go home on a big birthday, am I right?) to attending a friend's wedding a few months back, all were moments I wanted to look and feel my absolute best.
For a friend's wedding in upstate New York this past fall, I chose this fun Milly colorblocked dress and Sam Edelman suede booties. And, yes, a curly blowout ... which I actually did myself with a curling wand! Shock of all shocks, I know!
My 35th birthday celebration in NYC called for this amazing Free People Sequined Tunic, which I stalked for about a million years before pulling the trigger. I chose super straight tresses for this event, which is a change from the typical curls!
Getting ready to celebrate my 35th birthday in Pittsburgh, this time in an Eileen Fisher dress and Jeffrey Campbell Norah heels. And, yes, a curly blowout of course!
