In case you weren't already aware, I love nail art. Like, I'm kind of obsessed with it. So it's no wonder that I literally squealed with joy when I mapped
The House of Polish from my new apartment in West Hollywood and discovered that it is exactly one mile away. AKA I CAN WALK THERE AND WALK OUT AN HOUR LATER WITH FABULOUS NAILS. So, of course, I called them up on Saturday and snagged a last minute appointment.
I had a pretty solid idea of what I wanted my manicurist to do during this appointment, and came armed (pun intended) with tons of photos. I knew I wanted a geometric design and that I wanted each nail to be different. I also knew that I wanted to stay away from using purple nail polish, since I tend to gravitate toward that hue and wanted to switch it up. I brought five different photos with me...
|
I loved the simple half moon Paintbox created here, especially in shimmery gold. |
|
The Paintbox Pop Rocks manicure. I loved the solid opaque nail accented with a bold dot. |
|
The Paintbox Bandwidth manicure. Such a unique take on the French manicure with shimmery gold and the horizontal stripe detail. |
|
The Paintbox Sphere Of Influence manicure. I loved the curved French and half moons with negative space in the middle. |
|
This negative space manicure from sohotrightnail caught my eye right away, thanks to the triangular shape. |
As you can see, two of the photos I brought for inspiration featured negative space. (And most of them were inspired by the fabulous designs created at
Paintbox.) I actually said I wanted that, and thought my manicurist understood me, but it turned out she did all the designs with polish instead. And, while I'm a bit disappointed not to have the negative space in this manicure, I actually really love the finished product.
And, since I'm sure you're curious about what colors I selected...
|
The two colors I selected for my geometric nail art: Deborah Lippmann Nefertiti and Color Club Shabby Drab. |
I went with
Deborah Lippmann Nefertiti and
Color Club Shabby Drab. Nefertiti jumped out at me right away -- I love the shimmery liquid gold hue. And Shabby Drab followed pretty closely afterward. The smoky greyish blue shade just looked so perfectly rich with bold gold.

A closer look at my manicure, taken right after my nail artist was finished. Yes, the thumbs are cut off, and yes, my fingers are covered in drying drops. |
|
One more look at my manicure. I can't get over how much I love it! |
I have to say that I'm pretty happy with the finished product! The different designs ended up really complementing each other well, and I love how my manicurist put her own unique take on each of the inspiration photos. This is definitely a manicure that's had me staring at my nails nonstop since Saturday. The House of Polish wins again!
What's on your nails right now? Let me know in the comments!
Ooooh, love that geometric mani especially in such an interesting color/texture combo! Nothing's on my nails. Polish chips so quickly on me, and I was away for the weekend and didn't want chipped nails :(
