Throwback Thursday: My Lifelong Obsession with Hats

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion
For as long as I can remember, I've just really, REALLY loved hats. My grandpa used to feed the obsession by buying me fedoras, oversized straw hats, the famed "Blossom" hats, you name it. And, as the photo above will prove, I just couldn't get enough. This week, I'm giving you a look at just some of my many hat moments over the years. (Trust me, there are a LOT more.)

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, community theater, Babes in Toyland, Evan Sanders, Beachwood Community Theater
With my brother during a production of "Babes in Toyland" at Beachwood Community Theater in 1992. We played Toy Scouts and rocked super glamorous oversized orange and yellow berets. While I love my brother and would never actually want to silence him, this was definitely one of my favorite moments of the show.

With my brother again. We were at Joseph Booksellers in Cleveland during Christmas break (RIP Joseph Books) and couldn't resist these hats. Seriously, a Horton hat that matched my Ralph Lauren cashmere cardigan? WHY DID I NOT BUY THIS?

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, community theater, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Beachwood Community Theater
I played Jiminy Cricket in "Pinocchio" back in 1989. This whole costume was pretty much my favorite one ever, especially because of the top hat with the hunter green band.

Fast forward to 1996 and I was in another production of "Pinocchio" -- this time with my brother. Evan played Lampwick and I was a narrator. This was a posed moment in our house before we left for the show. He'll probably kill me for putting this on the interwebs, but I couldn't help it -- because that black fedora was one of my favorite hats of all time!

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, community theater, Alice in Wonderland, Knave, Beachwood Community Theater
Another community theater production, another top hat! This was in 1991 when I played the Knave in "Alice in Wonderland" -- just check out that heart-embellished smock dress and top hat! Can we say LOVE? (The silver penny loafers were all mine.)

In case you didn't know, I like being silly. When my friend Adam visited me in NYC about 10 years ago, he dared me to wear as many hats as possible at once. Well, I did it.

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, Knicks game
Best part of any Knicks game -- these massive cone hats! (And the cotton candy, of course.)

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, newsboy cap
Rocking a newsboy cap and majorly oversized earrings, circa 1991.

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, New Years Eve, Rory Sanders
My mom and I ventured semi close to Times Square for New Years Eve once year. (No way were we getting right into the middle of that hoopla.) We loved wearing these top hats!

Throwback Thursday, #tbt, Jamie Allison Sanders, hats, hat obsession, fashion, Disney World, sparkly Minnie Mouse ears
A trip to Disney World just isn't complete without buying a pair of mouse ears. I already had a couple pairs, so on my last trip I went for sparkly Minnie ears instead. I really wish I could wear these every day. (And yes, I went for MAJOR simultaneous sparkle with a sequined top.)

Do you like wearing hats -- or did you ever? Or what is your lifelong obsession? Let me know in the comments!

  7. You are so adorable in these hats. I look horrible in hats and I'm always self conscious so I don't wear them but you make it look fun.
