Beautifying the Broken Ankle: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion

First Aid Beauty, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion, lotion, moisturizer, broken ankle, Beautifying the Broken Ankle, moisturizing
I'm going to tell you something no one told me when I broke my ankle. THE EXPERIENCE DRIES YOUR SKIN OUT LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS. Picture this -- you can't put the broken area in water or slather lotion on it. It's trapped in a cast, or a splint, or a boot ... regardless, it's not exposed to the air. This continues for weeks on end. And then, finally, you're allowed to see the skin. You can touch it. You can (thank the lord) shower and moisturize. And by that point, it's too late ... BECAUSE YOUR SKIN HAS TAKEN ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN. It's morphed into something you don't even recognize anymore. And on top of worrying that you may never wear heels again, or you might not be able to do yoga or get on the elliptical, or standing at a concert might be too difficult, now you have to worry that your skin looks and feels like the leathery roommate from There's Something About Mary.

Hence this new series, Beautifying the Broken Ankle. I decided to (literally) take life into my own hands and start applying as many moisturizing products as I could to my dry, leathery skin, hoping against hope that they would do the trick. First up? First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion.

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my longstanding love and affection for all things First Aid Beauty. I've never met a product I didn't fall head over heels for. And, thankfully, this lotion is no exception. It brought my skin back to life.

Prior to using this lotion, my foot looked and felt like crocodile skin. Really beautiful, let me tell you! But within one week of using it twice a day (morning and night), not only is my skin back to normal, IT FEELS EVEN BETTER THAN BEFORE THE SURGERY. Seriously, my skin is baby soft. It's like I was a snake shedding its old skin and now I have new life breathed into what was previously dead.

This is due to a mix of colloidal oatmeal (to relieve itching and soothe dehydrated skin), glycerin (moisture and protection), shea butter (nourishment) and the FAB Antioxidant Booster (to combat free radicals). The formula is light and airy, and while it's not quite as whipped a texture as some other shea butter-infused lotions, it still sinks into skin without making it feel greasy. It does, however, help me slip on my compression socks much more easily, so I'm grateful for that!

I really can't say enough good things about this lotion. Before I started using it, I was seriously worried that my skin would never recover -- but, thankfully, I can now put those fears to rest. One small step forward (yes, pun intended) during this entire broken ankle process!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion retails for $7.50-$39 (depending on size) at firstaidbeauty.com.
