First off, let me say that my thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. The past couple days have been scary and uncertain, and as millions now are without power or other resources, my thoughts are with you.

As I sat in my Upper East Side apartment last night with the lights flickering and the cable and internet intermittently shutting off (thankfully, the power/cable/internet ended up staying on), I decided I might as well give myself a manicure. I rummaged through my bags of untrieds, not really sure what look I was going for, and then I stumbled upon three nail polishes that I simply had to put together!

I decided to do one accent nail on each hand, and to make the hands direct opposites of each other. And to jazz up the accent nails even more and make them stand out from the cream finish of the other nails, I painted them with the gold top coat.

This actually proved to be more difficult than I expected, as the holographic pieces in the top coat did not readily come out of the bottle! I ended up pouring some out onto a paper towel and applying them meticulously with the tip of a bobby pin.

I like the way the manicure came out, although I actually think the gold top coat made the accent nails look a bit messy. But I love the way the two colors look together. The RGB is such a gorgeous deep navy -- it's almost black in certain lights -- and it just looks so chic against the bold pink of the M.A.C.

What do you think of this look? Is it something you would try? Let me know in the comments!
