I'm in love with ombre nails. I've been known to create my own combinations more than once (check out my green version here and my pink one here!) -- and I'm always looking through my stash for new and interesting color combos. But here's the thing. Sometimes, even though I love searching through my stash for the perfect five colors, it's just really time consuming and frustrating. So The New Black Ombre 5-Piece Nail Polish Set in Haze is, without a doubt, one of my new favorite acquisitions.

I picked this set up on a recent perusal of the Sephora website. What did I tell myself not to buy? Nail polish. What did I buy? Nail polish. (Of course.) But when I came across this set, how could I NOT try it out? I love that it takes the guesswork out of the ombre creation -- it comes with miniature bottles of five purple hues that go perfectly from light to dark. I have to admit that I wasn't crazy about the palest color before I got it on my nails -- it looked a little too greyish in the bottle and I was worried about application.

My purple ombre nails. Don't you love them against my purple living room wall?
But I needn't have worried, because all five of the colors are absolutely gorgeous! I would definitely do a manicure with each of them on their own as well -- that's how much I love them all! But, of course, the ombre effect they create is absolutely to die for. I found it interesting that the darkest purple had a little shimmer to it, while the other four are opaque cremes -- although, once applied, the shimmer all but disappeared.

The staying power is decent on these. My manicure lasted with no chips for about four days. The two colors that lasted the best were definitely the two darkest -- the others started showing some tip wear and chips after that, while they kept on and on (and on!).

If you're looking for a way to do some easy nail art (really, it couldn't be any easier, since The New Black takes the guesswork out of the ombre process for you), then pick up this kit immediately! I guarantee you'll get tons of compliments on your nails -- people just can't get over how cool the effect is.

The New Black Ombre 5-Piece Nail Polish Set in Haze retails for $22 at sephora.com.
