Salon and Spa Directory: The Springs LA

Once in awhile, an oasis presents itself to me and brings me such joy, I can't believe it wasn't there all along. That's how I feel about The Springs LA.

I'm honestly not sure how I first discovered The Springs LA -- maybe someone I knew posted about it on Twitter or Instagram. But the moment I heard about it, I knew I'd be visiting during my recent trip to LA. At The Springs, you'll find an organic juice bar, yoga studio, wellness center and raw vegan restaurant and wine bar. Sounds pretty incredible, doesn't it? Well, it is.

I decided I wanted to experience as much of The Springs as possible, so I booked a yoga class and massage and made sure to have enough time beforehand to get an organic juice as well. The moment I stepped inside, I knew I'd pretty much died and gone to heaven. The 13,500 foot space is wide, open and airy, with a calming presence that just immediately soothes the soul. It's interesting to me that The Springs is located in downtown Los Angeles, since it doesn't really feel like it fits there -- but maybe that's the whole point. It really is the urban oasis they describe it to be.

Immediately upon arrival, I snagged a seat at the juice bar and ordered The Evergreen: a mix of cucumber, celery, romaine, spinach, kale, parsley and dandelion. It. Was. So. Good. Crisp, flavorful and energizing, which was perfect right before my yoga class.

The Evergreen juice at The Springs LA. Absolutely delicious.

Now, I don't claim to be a yogi by any means, but I do love practicing yoga whenever I can. And if I could practice at The Springs every day? I most certainly would. I signed up for Gentle Yoga, which The Springs describes as follows:

"Gentle yoga incorporates slow-moving poses to help ease the body and mind. Movements are relaxing and therapeutic for muscles and body systems. Perfect for beginners or students with injuries, ailments, or stress."

This description is completely accurate. We really took our time with the poses, which I enjoy more than power yoga -- I want to feel like I'm really stretching out my muscles and getting a good workout while at the same time enjoying inner peace. This yoga class definitely made me feel that way. And as an added bonus, there were only two of us in the class, so it was basically a personalized yoga class for only $15.

After my yoga class was over, I was definitely ready for my massage in the Wellness Center. I chose the 90-minute California Massage ($140), which incorporates a blend of shiatsu, Swedish massage, acupressure, sports massage, myofascial release, deep tissue, reflexology and lymphatic massage. These therapies are blended together in a customized treatment for each client, based on the issues you'd like to work on.

The product bookcase in the wellness center.

My therapist, Heather, was one of the best masseuses I've ever had. She really took her time with the strokes and worked through the stress and tension in my neck, back and shoulders in various ways, both while I was lying face down and face up. Her strokes were sure and even, the pressure was just firm enough, and she was a wonderful person to boot! The 90 minutes seemed to simultaneously go on forever and be over in a flash, and I'm pretty sure I passed out from blissful relaxation for a bit.

I loved these flowers in the wellness center. Just looking at them brought me inner peace.

I honestly can't recommend The Springs LA highly enough. My experience was everything I wanted it to be and more. The staff, instructors and therapists really want you to feel at ease and be the best version of yourself possible, from the inside out. It's truly one of the best wellness experiences I've had. I left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and completely at peace ... and longing for a return visit.
