On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Deborah Lippmann I'm Not Edible

Introducing a new column on The Beauty of Life! If you're like me (or, okay, like most people in the world), you've been obsessed with Mean Girls ever since its release in 2004. And let's be serious -- there's really nothing more iconic than the line "On Wednesdays we wear pink." So I'm instituting a new column inspired by that very line! Each week I'll feature -- obviously -- something pink. First up: Deborah Lippmann I'm Not Edible.

I'm Not Edible was originally part of the Deborah Lippmann Spring 2013 Staccato Collection. All three of the polishes in this collection were inspired by ice cream -- and yes, they look delicious enough to eat! I've been in love with one of the other colors, Polka Dots and Moonbeams, for quite some time, so it stands to reason that I'd love I'm Not Edible just as much.

While this color has looked very bubblegum pink in the swatches I've seen online, my bottle and requisite color on my nails are definitely closer to pastel. I used two coats, though, so maybe I would have needed a third to really bring out the bubblegum-ness of this shade. But two coats yield perfectly opaque color, and I tend to hate more than two coats on my nails anyway, so I stopped there.

But here's what I truly love about this color and the others in the collection. The buildable black glitter takes on a blueish cast with each additional layer, and the polish creates a sandwich-like effect. I love that the glitter isn't trapped and concealed in previous coats but still comes through, just in a new and unique way. There's also enough glitter in each coat that there are no sparse areas. I like that it creates a scattered stars across the sky effect as well.

This color is just so fun and joyful. I can't help but smile every time I glance down at my nails! I think the black glitter keeps it from being too girly or frilly.

So, wearing pink on a Wednesday? I can get down with that.

I purchased this color (and a few others) back in October during a huge sale on Deb's website. But you can find it for $20 at beauty.com.
