Rise and Shine! Time for Bumble and bumble's New Early Bird Blow Dry

I'm a sucker for a good blowout. And you've heard the phrase "The early bird catches the worm," haven't you? Well, then, it was only a matter of time before the house of Bumble -- yes, the Bumble and bumble -- decided to get in on the early bird action with their brand-new Early Bird Blow Dry Service.

As of September 22, Bumble and bumble is offering this fabulous service to New York gals on the go. Early morning meeting? Breakfast with a client? Big night out and you never made it home? Whatever your reason, this service is guaranteed to get your tresses in tip-top shape. Stylists -- who usually don't start until 10am -- are on hand as early as 7:30am to make your locks look fabulous!

I decided to check out the brand-new service last Wednesday. And let me tell you, getting to the salon at 7:30 -- when that's my usual wake-up time -- was not very fun! But am I ever glad I did it. My stylist, David, was charming and funny right from the start ... and at 7:30 in the morning, that was a welcome treat! He decided to make my hair sleek but bouncy -- just the way I like it when I'm not styling it myself! And while he spritzed Thickening Mist on my locks, which made me a bit nervous as my hair is already quite thick, he assured me that they would turn out super-shiny and not at all fro-like.

We chatted away about Fashion Week, what brought us to New York, upcoming vacation plans (like his trip to Costa Rica!) ... all while he blew my hair out calmly and assuredly. Forty-five minutes later, I looked in the mirror and was absolutely amazed. My reflection showed hair that was lustrous, shiny and undeniably full of life. I simply could not stop gushing to David about my utter fabulousness!

So if you're looking for gorgeous, vibrant, healthy hair, head to Bumble and bumble for the Early Bird Blow Dry. Prices start at $56 -- check Bumble and bumble's website for salon details and hours.

Two-For Tuesdays: Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming Lip Gloss and Rollerball Duo

Tommy Hilfiger, Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming, Tommy Hilfiger Dreaming Lip Gloss and Rollerball Duo, Lip Gloss and Rollerball Duo, lipgloss, lip gloss, gloss, rollerball, perfume, fragranceThe romantic idea of dreaming has been captured in a bottle. Tommy Hilfiger's latest fragrance, Dreaming, is an enticing blend of succulent peach and airy flowers that perfectly encompasses the essence of our dreams.

These are lofty terms to speak of, I know. But the new Lip Gloss and Rollerball Duo of this fragrance brings out the romantic in me. Freesia, tuberose, white hibiscus, white woods and orris combine with the aforementioned peach, creating a sweetly seductive fragrance that lingers ever so beautifully on the skin.

But this duo would not be complete without the pretty lipgloss that accompanies the fragrance. A beautiful shade of reddish pink with just the subtlest touch of shimmer, the gloss isn't at all sticky or tacky and is super-flattering. Best of all, it's scented with peach!

And my favorite part of this fragrance? The fact that it's a rollerball, of course! I love the easy accessibility that the slender tube provides, letting me slip it ever so effortlessly into my clutch for a night out on the town. This baby will only set you back $20 at boscovs.com. Quite a small price to pay when you consider that just a lipgloss usually costs at least $20! So go ahead and dream.

Great Brand Alert: Belli Skincare

I'm not a mom ... or a mom-to-be. But you know what? It doesn't matter. Because, luckily, even though Belli Skincare is formulated especially for mamas, those not expecting or with child can use the products too! This fabulous skincare line is the only one to be teratology screened -- which, in layman's terms, means the products are studied to make sure they won't cause birth defects or deformities. In addition, the line spans a wide range of elimination treatments, including stretch marks, acne, dark under-eye circles and diaper rash. The last one notwithstanding, it's definitely fabulous for use by every gal looking for a little help in certain areas!

The packaging is simple, sleek and to the point. Bottles and tubes are white with blue or purple lettering -- very no muss, no fuss. And that's perfect whether you're a mom with no extra time on your hands or a busy gal on the go!

Read on to discover my two absolute must-have products from Belli Skincare.

All Day Moisture Body Lotion ($25): I'm all for zesty fragrances, so the fact that this lotion is scented with lemon got me excited before I even opened the bottle. And am I ever glad I did! Not only does it smell absolutely fantastic -- it literally smells exactly like fresh-squeezed lemonade -- but it feels absolutely fantastic as well. It's not at all greasy or slick; rather, it sinks right into the skin and leaves behind a feeling of absolute conditioning and moisture. I especially like to use it on my ashy calves -- the chamomile-infused formula makes them utterly soft and silky smooth!

Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer ($6): Under $10? I'm already sold. And a new version of Purell to boot? Why, does it get any better than this? I seriously doubt it. This little tube has found a place of permanent residency among the clutter in my purse -- whenever I step off the subway or out of a crowded and somewhat dirty bar, I just reach for this citrus-scented miracle worker and immediately feel soothed and clean. I like that there's no medicinal smell, and I love that it doesn't make my hands feel sticky or less clean than if I hadn't used anything at all.

All products are available for purchase at belliskincare.com.

Must-Have Mondays: Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar Cologne

Jo Malone, Jo Malone Sweet Lime & Cedar, Sweet Lime & Cedar, fragrance, perfumeLike Thai food? Then you're definitely going to like the new fragrance from Jo Malone. Their latest iteration -- inspired by the diverse flavors of Thai cuisine -- is named Sweet Lime & Cedar. I'd been curious about this fragrance for quite some time, I must admit. A perfume that somehow encompasses a cuisine without making me a) hungry or b) nauseous? I really didn't think it could be pulled off. Luckily, I was wrong.

A combination of zesty fruits, fragrant leaves, delicate flowers, spices and nutty woods effortlessly comes together in the bottle to create a fragrance that's somehow calming and sensual at the same time. As soon as I spritzed it on, I felt at ease and at peace ... and not at all hungry, thankfully! (Though I did get a craving for Thai food later that night, so maybe that's a bit subliminal!) While the fragrance stays with you throughout the day, it's light and not at all cloying.

And the bottle, oh, the bottle! I absolutely love buying Jo Malone fragrances for the simple fact that they are so elegantly packaged. Each bottle is nestled so perfectly within a cream-and-black box that's tied with a black silk ribbon, making it the perfect gift to give or get. At $55 for 30ml or $100 for 100ml on Jo Malone's website, it's not cheap -- but it will make you feel absolutely fabulous every time you wear it.

Beauty Questions: What Was Your First Favorite Scent?

For as long as I can remember, I've loved perfume. It's difficult to pinpoint just one fragrance that calls to me, though Ralph Lauren Romance certainly does the trick. But when thinking over my favorite scents and smells, vanilla is always at the top of the list. As early as 10 years old, I was making trips to The Body Shop at the local mall to partake in what I thought was the most amazing invention ever (and miss to this very day), the make-your-own fragrance bar. And out of every single scent available -- and I think there were at least 30 on hand -- vanilla won every single time. It's got a comforting, homey, yet totally sensual and seductive allure to it that just always gets me. So my Beauty Question to you is this. What was your first favorite scent? Let me know in the comments!

M.A.C Ungaro Collection with Sharon Dowsett

From a Paris couture house long celebrated for its romantic use of pattern and colour, to the modern evolution of Ungaro today, it's an exciting debut! Live from backstage at the Fall 2008 Collections, It-Boy designer, Esteban Cortazar, and M.A.C have comoe together to create a special colour collection as dreamy, refined, and, well Parisienne as anything this side of the Avenue Georges V, exclusively ours! A limited-edition for lips, cheeks, eyes ... chez Ungaro, only for M.A.C.

If it's not immediately obvious from the opening paragraph, the house of Ungaro has collaborated with everyone's favorite makeup brand, M.A.C, to create an absolutely stunning limited-edition collection. Launching in early October, it encompasses a wide range of products -- including this beauty chick's fave, Lipglass, in a gorgeous pastel pink! Check this space over the next few days for interviews with the masterminds behind this amazing collection, including Esteban Cortezar himself!

Next up: Sharon Dowsett, Key Makeup Artist for M.A.C! Read on to find out more about how she helped to develop this amazing collection.

How did you work with the M.A.C team backstage to ensure they understood the feeling you wanted for the look?
Backstage I had to keep reminding the team to make it look less professional -- I wanted it to look like shadow rather than eyeshadow. Like Monet's Water Lilies, it looks better the farther back you stand ... there's not a lot of makeup but a lot of thought's gone into it.

At the Atelier day you had a whole collection of post-its on your mood board listing inspirations. What were these?
I wrote down all the words Esteban had used to describe the Ungaro woman so I could keep her in mind. They read: strong, free spirit, spontaneous, open-minded, modern, siren, organic, artistic, erotic, feminine, happy, effortless, passionate, self-assured, natural, alluring, exotic. He also said there was something unexpected about her.

How did you work with M.A.C on the products to get the colors and textures exactly right?
I asked the M.A.C Product Development team to make a few changes to the products I'd used at the show since I'd created bespoke mixtures to get the shades exactly right. I requested that the orange eyeshadow be less yellow, the brown be warmed up and the violet more vibrant. Fortunately you can make anything by combining pigments and mixes from the Pro range and we also looked at some of my favorite theatrical products for inspiration.

The orange eyeshadow is interesting -- what made you want to include it?
The orange eyeshadow is an unexpected pop of color on this palette, otherwise it could look a little too romantic. I was also thinking of Ungaro's reputation for eclectic mixes.

The house of Ungaro is known for its signature pink hue -- did you feel that you needed to try and get this in the collection and in the makeup for the show?
I certainly wanted to include the signature hot Ungaro pink into the makeup at the show, but it didn't feel right to have such a strong color on the face. I must admit, however, that my first idea stemmed from the striking pink blush worn by Guy Bourdin's models! Then I remembered that M.A.C used to have a wonderful blood color stain and asked if we could create one for the collection -- an intense wet translucent flush that could be worn on the cheeks or lips.

As a makeup artist it must be a complete dream to be able to create your own products, especially with M.A.C's product development team and all their expertise at your disposal. Were there any constraints put on you by them, though?
It's such a dream to collaborate on a collection of products, and M.A.C was incredibly free with me, there were no marketing constraints or anything to limit my creativity. They said, "be an artist and we will do the rest."

First Look Fridays: Dina Fierro of eye4style

I'm thrilled to bring you this week's edition of First Look Fridays, featuring the lovely Dina Fierro of eye4style! Dina's blog is one of my must-reads every day -- her beauty news is unparalleled, her enthusiasm knows no bounds, and she's really got her eye on the pulse of fashion and beauty! A native New Yorker, Dina studied fashion buying at FIT and pursued internships in styling, magazine editorial and fashion public relations. "I fell in love with the fashion and beauty industries," she says. "It was meant to be." Read on to discover more about this fabulous gal!

Why did you decide to start your blog?
I had been working in the fashion department at Budget Living and doing some freelance writing for other magazines and newspapers. BL folded in February of 2006 and in the midst of interviewing with other major publishers, I decided to start eye4style as a creative outlet.

I love the name of your blog! How did you come up with it?
I wish I had a fun story to share but it was literally just a quick brainstorm session ... I thought it was fun and a little bit clever and now ... here I am!

Do you have a "day job?" What is it?
I do! I have to pay for the shoes somehow, you know? :) I lead the fashion and beauty practice for Attention, a social media firm.

What have been some of the highlights of having your blog?
It sounds cheesy and it sounds cliched, but the highlight has easily been all of the new friends I've made through blogging. The blogging community is warm, friendly, fun and collaborative. It's also been fab to see blogs become so important in the world of media. It's no longer just magazines that drive awareness for brands ... in fact, in many ways, the blogosphere is actually more powerful.

What are your top 5 beauty essentials?
1) MAC Tendertones -- I simply cannot be without lipgloss and these give great gloss and smell like Jolly Ranchers!

2) Cold Process Bar Soaps -- I love Nesti Dante (but it's hard to find! I stock up at The Bathroom in the West Village), Acca Kappa and Earthworks.

3) Child Extremely Rich Body Creme -- I was introduced to this luscious body moisturizer at the Henri Bendel Beauty Breakfast earlier this year. It's richly scented (you don't even need to layer with the perfume) and leaves skin with a slight sheen. Fab!

4) Art of Shaving's Rose Absolute Shave Cream & Brush -- I can't abide by waxing, it's so painful! So I swear by this beautifully scented, moisturizing shave cream. You just need the tiniest bit on the brush and it produces an amazing amount of lather.

5) And last but not least, I adore Ineke After My Own Heart -- It's a lovely, fresh, green lilac fragrance. It may be a little light for winter though ... we shall see. Time to get sniffing!

What brands can you simply not live without?
1) Bobbi Brown for her amazing concealers and endlessly wearable colors.

2) Three Custom Color for the power of custom blending and the personal attention.

Playing with products must be fun -- but what are some things you do for fun outside of blogging?
I read incessantly -- both fiction and non. I also have embarrassingly bad taste in TV ... let's just say I'm not above The Bachelor and The Ghost Whisperer.

Are there any other beauty blogs you read regularly? What are some that you like and why?
I read and love a ton of other blogs! A few of my faves are:

1) Beauty Blogging Junkie and makeup loves me for their knowledge and sass.

2) The Beauty of Life (ahem!) for her boundless enthusiasm and energy. (Editor's note: Awww! Thanks, Dina!)

3) The Daily Obsession for their discerning taste.

4) I also log into Fashionista, Jezebel and Racked on a daily basis for their NYC and fashion-related insider scoop.

Thanks so much to the fabulous Dina Fierro for granting me this interview! Now be sure to check out eye4style immediately!

Lusts of the Week

What a week, fellow beauty chicks! My high school reunion was this past weekend (see the pic at left for a closeup of my hair and makeup that night, and a bit of my See by Chloe dress). It was overwhelming, exciting, intense, surreal, and -- of course -- loads of fun. But it totally wore me out! I still found a way to pick up a few new fave beauty products though. And this week they all just happen to be pint-size! Perfect for stowing in your getaway bag the next time you go on a trip. Check out what I'm totally loving this week.

Hollybeth's Blossom Lip Nectar ($7 at hollybeth.net): Now, you know it's gotta be good if it takes me away from my trusty old LipSmackers. This chapstick keeps my lips so supple and soft -- even when I put it on before bed! I wake up and they're still just as conditioned. And with winter just around the corner, I'm so glad I discovered this! Plus, the lavender geranium scent is soothing, calming and reminds me of a day at the spa. It doesn't get any better than this!

Pacficia Solid Perfumes ($8.95 each at pacificacandles.com): I've long been a fan of this company's candles -- I think at one time I had at least six of the pillars and another three or four jar candles sitting around my apartment. So when I heard that they were making solid perfumes, I was totally up for checking them out. And wow, am I glad I did! Each one smells more wonderful and enticing than the next. My fave is Avalon Juniper, whose blend of grapefruit and heliotrope makes me think of walking in the woods on a crisp fall evening. And the tiny tin is so adorable -- I love sticking it in my purse and carrying it with me all day!

Yves Saint Laurent Long-Lasting Nail Lacquer in Tuxedo Grey ($19 at nordstrom.com): Totally my go-to fall shade. This deep shimmering grey is absolutely perfect for colder weather -- it's interesting, it's exciting, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Two coats will turn your nails a deep charcoal with subtle hints of sparkle -- so much better than the standard red! And isn't the bottle with its lacquered gold top so utterly chic and cool?

M.A.C Ungaro Collection with Esteban Cortezar

First up: Esteban Cortezar, of course! Read on to find out more about his muses, his collections, and what he's excited about in this line!

What do you love about the Ungaro aesthetic?
What is so great for me to be at Ungaro is that the aesthetic of the house comes so naturally to me. It feels organically right. I want to continue to experiment with beautiful prints, fluidity and colors and stamp these onto my collections.

Who is the Ungaro woman?
The Ungaro woman celebrates life, she loves nature, she smells fantastic -- like peonies, gardenias and jasmine in a subtle way that's so feminine. She adores feminine fluidity, beautiful colors, soft textures and unexpected prints -- she's a true individual with her style, a free spirit.

Who are your muses?
All my girlfriends are my muses -- women who love to dance, to laugh.

You must be excited to be collaborating with M.A.C on this range -- how long have you worked together?
I'm so excited about the collaboration with M.A.C -- they are so forward-thinking and so believing. They believed in me from my first show since I was friends with all the girls from the Miami store. I really feel part of the M.A.C family.

Knowing that this makeup collection will have the Ungaro name to it, what was most important to you in terms of its aesthetic?
It's important to me that the makeup feels timeless-modern, but still makeup that a woman will always want to wear.

Trend-Filled Thursdays: Sugar Products

Sugar: A sweet, crystalline substance, obtained chiefly from the juice of the sugarcane and the sugar beet, and present in sorghum and maple sap. Used extensively as an ingredient and flavoring of certain foods.

Looking for an ingredient that will buff, soften and moisturize skin? Then you should certainly turn to sugar. The little crystals normally
found in coffee or sprinkled across strawberries have fabulous conditioning properties guaranteed to make your skin super-supple. Read on to discover the products filled to the brimming with sugar that you definitely won't want to live without.

Archipelago Botanicals Sugar Creme in White Sugar & Mango ($22 at scentsandsprays.com): Now, I know this says "hand creme." But I actually like to use it on my legs and knees! It's formulated with soy proteins and dried milk solids, which help to keep skin feeling utterly silky and smooth. Plus it smells delicious -- and it's so fragrant, it cuts down on the need for perfume!

Jaqua Pink Champagne Exfoliating Body Polish ($14 at jaquabeauty.com): I've been a huge fan of all things Jaqua for years ... especially the body polishes. They never fail to make my skin softer than I thought possible -- and this one is definitely no different! And with its light but unbelievably delectable scent -- not to mention its combination of fruit extracts and oils like kukui, macadamia, sesame and sweet almond -- this one is a true winner.

Glowology Sugar Mama Honey Scrub ($26 at noodleandboo.com): Okay, so this one is created for mamas to be. But you know what? I don't care. I love the consistency of this scrub, which is super-thick and creamy. Shea butter moisturizes, coconut makes it smell delicious, and honey conditions. And best of all? The jar is so huge, it will take forever for me to get through it all!

Crabtree & Evelyn Lemongrass & Sugarcane Botanical Shower Mousse ($16 at crabtree-evelyn.com): The newest addition to the huge array of shower gels and body washes I've amassed? Totally this one. With its foamy consistency, it brings a much-needed newness to the typical showertime. My one recommendation? If you're using a pouf, use at least four pumps to really lather up. Otherwise, you won't have enough to get through the whole shower!

Molton Brown Celestial Maracuja Sugar Polish ($60 at moltonbrown.com): The ultimate splurge. This scrub is amazingly fragrant and makes me happy every time I open the tub. Formulated with organic maracuja passion flower and rose moqueta oil, this baby leaves even the roughest patches feeling better than ever. And the best part? The deep red tub totally pretties up the shower.

Lalicious Coconut Cream Sugar Souffle ($34 at lalicious.com): I am a huge fan of all things coconut. So it comes as no surprise that this scrub made me totally happy the second I unscrewed the cap. It's thick and luscious, and the intoxicating scent of coconut just wafts out and onto the skin immediately. And ashy calves? They're a thing of the past.

Principessa Delizia Mia Sugar Polish ($28 at makeup.com): Want to feel like a true princess? Then this is the scrub to help you on your way. Granted, it's pretty soupy -- I had to mix it for a good three or four minutes to really make the consistency scrubby enough for use. But once mixed, it left my skin feeling softer than I thought possible! You can even use it as a massage oil instead of a scrub, if you prefer. Now that's treating yourself royally.

H20+ Sea Marine Triple Butter Sugar Scrub ($25 at h20plus.com): Bring the spa into your shower with this tub. As soon as you open it, you'll feel like you were transported to a massage table complete with aromatherapy and essential oils. Skin will feel buttery soft -- as well it should -- with the triple-butter blend that you'll work into it. Seriously, is there anything this brand can't do?

Wallet-Friendly Wednesdays: Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother Cooling Hydragel in Gleam

Neutrogena, Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother Cooling Hydragel, MoistureShine, lipgloss, gloss, lip gloss, lipsGlossy. Glisteny. Shimmery. Shiny. I seriously cannot say enough good things about Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother Cooling Hydragel in Gleam. Ever since I started using it, my lips have felt super-soft and smooth.

Now, I have to admit ... this was an impulse purchase. While visiting my brother in Boston over the summer, I stopped in a Walgreen's and happened to come across it in the makeup aisle. Something about the tube just called to me -- I don't know whether it was the fact that it said "MoistureShine" right on top or whether it was the gorgeous pink color. But whatever it was, I plunked down the $8 and figured I would give it a try. And am I ever glad I did!

My lips have never felt so soft. They've never felt so supple. They've never shone so much. Add to that the subtle cinnamon-like taste, and I have to say this is one of my all-time fave purchases!

And good news for all you ladies wanting to buy it online -- you can get it even cheaper on drugstore.com! It's only $6.65. Now is that a bargain or what?

Beautiful Belles: Twiggy

A series focusing on beautiful women throughout history with important contributions to the arts and entertainment industry and charity -- and a fabulous sense of beauty, inside and out!

Who do we have to thank for long, lush lashes that go on for days and days? Why, Twiggy, of course. The first super-thin supermodel became famous in the 1960s for her big doe eyes, long eyelashes, and -- no surprise here -- her rail-thin frame. (Yes, there were ultra-skinny models before Kate Moss!) Weighing only 90 pounds when she was discovered at the age of 16, Twiggy -- born Lesley Hornby -- became known for the high fashion mod look created by English fashion designer Mary Quant.

Twiggy's popularity and fascination only continued to grow after she was discovered. Her short hair was utterly modern and married the masculine/feminine side of fashion effortlessly. She was even regarded as one of the faces of "Swinging London" -- yes, the era made famous by Austin Powers!

Twiggy's sense of style and beauty is truly iconic. One cannot think of the mod period without associating her along with it. Her big doe eyes were always, always accented with loads of black mascara -- and it's rumored that she would even
draw on an extra layer of lashes underneath her eyes for more volume! She kept the rest of her look simple, paring the traditional smoky eye with a nude glossy lip and clear, fresh skin. And let's not forget that hair! Her chopped, boy-meets-girl haircut came at a time when most women revered long tresses. This haircut even inspired me during my college years, when I decided to chop off all my hair!

Recent fans of Twiggy will recognize her from her years as a judge on America's Next Top Model -- a role which, sadly, has now been handed over to Paulina Porizkova. But Twiggy is still out and about, modeling for Marks and Spencer and acting in various movies and television shows. She's appeared The Blues Brothers, Pygmalion (as Eliza Doolittle), The Boy Friend and Edge of Seventeen, just to name a few of her many credits. And all the while, she's looking absolutely fabulous. Her hair is longer and blonder, her makeup is softer, but she still embodies that girl from the 1960s with her beautiful big eyes and dewy skin.

Not only contributing to the fashion, beauty and entertainment worlds, however, Twiggy has donated her time and money to Breakthrough Breast Cancer -- a charity in the UK which supports breast cancer education and research.

Twiggy is truly a fashion and beauty icon. One can only hope she continues to make the arena interesting in years to come!

Bath and Body Works, Bath and Body Works Signature Collection, Signature Collection, lotion, perfume, eau de toilette, Warm Vanilla Sugar, vanilla, sugar, duo, Delightful DuoMy first favorite scent? Vanilla. Something about it is just so comforting and homey. It reminds me of baking cookies in my grandma's kitchen, measuring out all the ingredients and taking care to put in a teaspoon of the yummy-smelling vanilla before mixing up the batter. So naturally, I fell in love with anything and everything vanilla-scented, from perfumes and lotions to shower gels and haircare products. And what I'm totally jonesing for right now? The Bath & Body Works Signature Collection Warm Vanilla Sugar Delightful Duo. (Say that three times fast!) This duo pairs a lotion and fragrance in the scent that takes me back to my childhood every time.

First off, I totally love the box. The lacquered dark green box is tied with a pretty satin ribbon, making it absolutely beautiful whether it's a gift you're giving to someone else or to yourself! But it's what's inside that really counts ... and the Body Lotion and Eau de Toilette do not disappoint.

The Body Lotion is seriously moisturizing and nourishing without being greasy in the slightest. I love massaging it into my hands before bed -- it works its magic overnight and leaves them feeling soft and smooth all throughout the next day! The Eau de Toilette, on the other hand, is somehow sensuous and invigorating all at once. It's not cloying like some vanilla scents can be -- rather, it's quite light and airy but with a gorgeous undertone of inviting warmth.

But my absolute favorite part about this set? The price! It costs a mere $9 on the Bath & Body Works website. Forget cooking vanilla -- at a price this low, I'm stocking up on the kind I can use each and every day.

Must-Have Mondays: Sephora Brand Silver Swirl Bag Collection

Sephora, Sephora Brand, Sephora Brand Silver Swirl Bag Collection, Silver Swirl Bag Collection, makeup bag, makeup bags, makeup pouch, makeup pouchesI have a problem. I have way too much makeup. No way will I ever have enough makeup bags to hold all my products! Or so I thought, until I came across the Sephora Brand Silver Swirl Bag Collection. With these bags at the ready, I now have a place for everything in my collection, from eyeliner and brushes to lipstick and blush.

I first saw these bags while at the Sephora Holiday Preview back in July. And the second my eyes fell upon them, it was love. The swirl pattern etched into the metallic silver vinyl draws inspiration from Van Gogh's Starry Night -- the stitching swirls and sweeps across the fabric, creating an endless array of twists and turns that are beautifully eye-catching. This pattern swirls across five bags of varying sizes and functions. My three faves are:

1) Large Handle Bag ($38): My fave of the bunch. This square-shaped bag zips open to reveal three mesh pouches and a zippered pocket -- perfect for storing all of my treasured essentials.

2) Pencil Case ($16): This 8" long pouch can hold so many brushes and eye pencils -- even my extra-long eyelash comb! And its narrow size lends itself perfectly to fitting inside my bag for easy toting ability.

3) Clutch Bag ($18): Looking for a makeup bag that doubles as an evening clutch? This is the one! It's got a wrist strap, so you can carry it easily -- and the subtle rectangular shape is designed with an interior pouch that perfectly fits a cell phone!

The other bags available are the Medium Cosmetic Case ($20) and the Hanging Bag ($48). All are available on Sephora's website. Fabulousness? It might come cheaper than you think.

First Look Fridays: Anne Fritz of The Jet Set Girls

Anne Fritz, The Jet Set Girls, blog, beauty blog, First Look Fridays, headshotIt is my privilege to bring you this week's edition of First Look Fridays, featuring Anne Fritz of The Jet Set Girls. JSG is one of my daily blog reads because of its insightful commentary, fabulous fashion and beauty finds, and of course -- the amazing travel information! I also absolutely love the "A Peek Inside" feature, with exciting peeks inside the bags from some of the most amazing people in the fashion and beauty industry. (A recent article featured celeb stylist Danilo.) Read on to discover even more about the amazing Anne!

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I'm a total city girl! I grew up near Washington, D.C. and knew I wanted to move to NYC after college, which is exactly what I did. I came here with two friends the month after I graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in magazine journalism. I didn't have a job, but I had ambition and passion to spare! I landed a spot at a real estate trade magazine (glamorous, I know!) in the month that I moved here. From there, I went on to Woman's Day and Life & Style.

Why did you decide to start your blog?
Hope Schmid, my co-blogger and best friend since I was 8, and I came up with the idea for The Jet Set Girls on a bachelorette trip to Vegas in April 2007. We had such fun researching everything about Vegas -- which hotel has the best clubs, the best pools, shopping, figuring out if the Hard Rock was too young for us that we decided we wanted to do something about girls' getaways.

I love the name of your blog! How did you come up with it?
Thanks! Originally it was between "Carry On," which I liked for the double entendre, and The Jet Set Girls. Everyone seemed to like JSG better, so I was outvoted.

Do you have a "day job?" What is it?
I work two days a week at EverydayHealth.com. I also freelance copywrite -- recently I've worked on Sephora's fall catalog and on the website for two Baltimore-based plastic surgeons.

What have been some of the highlights of having your blog?
No question it's all the great people I've met! It's really opened up my world. Bloggers are so nice and friendly! Everyone really wants to help each other out and see everyone succeed. I've also been invited to some really cool events that I never would have been invited to, even as an editor, like the Louis Vuitton Cruise presentation and Boucheron pop-up store opening party. I'm also learning SO much more about the Web 2.0. At first it was like a whole new language, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it all.

What are your top 5 beauty essentials?
1) Bumble and bumble Hair Powder -- Because I color my hair, I try to wash it once a week or less. I could never get by without it!

2) Clinique Lash Power Mascara -- My eyes tend to be teary, but this mascara never budges! It won't smudge when you're wearing concealer, either.

3) Prescriptives All Weather Friend SPF 40 -- I'm SPF-obsessed to the point where my doctor makes me take Vitamin D supplements. This one is the only SPF 40 that I know of that absorbs so readily. It's tiny, too, so you can carry it on the plane, even with the liquid restrictions.

4) Olay Ribbons Body Wash -- My skin is SO dry, so I don't use soap. This really moisturizes as well as cleans.

5) Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer -- I don't like products that feel thick or heavy on my skin. This evens out my skin tone and is super-light, it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything.

What brands can you simply not live without?
Prescriptives, M.A.C, Kate Somerville, Mario Badescu, Stila, OPI, Bumble and bumble, Kerastase and Davines.

Playing with products must be fun -- but what are some things you do for fun outside of blogging?
Ha! I love to travel, of course! I also like to bike ride -- it's how I met my boyfriend -- practice yoga, spend time with my adorable nieces and nephew (all under 5), shop and cook. I moved recently, so we're also spending a lot of time decorating -- though I'm not sure I would call that fun!

Are there any other beauty blogs you read regularly? What are some that you like and why?
1) Yours, of course! (Editor's note: Awww. Thanks, Anne!)

2) I also love All About the Pretty -- no one knows products better than Julia.

3) Beauty's SPOT -- for its organic focus.

4) The Daily Obsession -- for the luxe pics.

5) Sephora's Beauty and the Blog -- for their insider info.

Thanks so much to Anne Fritz of The Jet Set Girls for this fabulous interview! Now be sure to head over to her site immediately!

Trend-Filled Thursdays: Green Nail Polish

Forget blue, black and purple polish. Those are all soooo last season. The color every gal in the know is now sporting on her tips? Green, of course! And whether you're going light with a seafoam hue or dark with emerald, there's something in the color wheel for everyone. Read on to discover the bottles you simply must have in your arsenal this season.

Rescue Beauty Lounge, Rescue Beauty Lounge Recycle, Recycle Polish, Recycle, nail polish, polish, nails
Rescue Beauty Lounge Recycle Nail Polish ($18 at rescuebeauty.com): Hands down, this one is my absolute fave. My bestie Katie and I found this polish at Louis Boston back in August and immediately fell in love. And after only painting one nail to see how it looked, you wouldn't believe the positive comments from everyone around me!

China Glaze, China Glaze Nail Lacquer, China Glaze Nail Lacquer In The Lime Light, Nail Lacquer, In the Lime Light, nail polish, polish, nails
China Glaze Nail Lacquer in In The Lime Light ($5.99 at sallybeauty.com): Absolutely perfect when you want to punch up your pedicure. The neon green shade is creamy with just the subtlest hint of shimmer -- and your toes will be seen for miles! (Trust me, that's a good thing.) And if you're worried about looking too young with such a bright hue, don't be -- it's perfectly acceptable to wear a punchy limey-green as a grownup!

Shades by Barielle in Date Night ($8 at barielle.com): So this is why emeralds are such popular gemstones. This deep emerald hue is tinged with gorgeous shimmer and sits creamily and beautifully upon the nail. Totally perfect for cooler temperatures.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Suvi (6 at artofbeauty.com): I know what you're thinking. Another emerald green polish? But what sets this one apart is the fact that it's not quite as opaque as the others. What's nice about this is that it's great for a less intense option!

N.Y.C. New York Color Long-Wearing Nail Enamel in Big Money Frost ($.99 at ulta.com): This is the polish for the teenager in me. I can totally picture 16-year-old Jamie running around with this shimmery jade on her nails -- especially since it retails for under a dollar!

Creative Nail Design Enamel in Replenish ($6 at bebeautiful.com): The sheerest, lightest color of them all, this one is absolutely perfect with just one coat. It's got a bit of a grey tinge that just really takes your nails up a notch while keeping them totally work-appropriate.

Lusts of the Week

Gals, I am beat this week. I'm not sure whether it's from the craziness of Fashion Week, or the fact that I've basically been running around for the last three weeks straight, or that I'm still getting settled in my new job. But whatever it is, I'm totally jonesing for some relaxation ... not that I'm going to get any, with my high school reunion coming up this weekend! (Where did the last 10 years go?) In any case, I've worked a bit of time into my schedule to come up with a few Lusts of the Week for you!

NP Set Eye Palette Eye Shadow in Chicago Taupe ($20 at target.com): This is hands down my fave item from the new line Napoleon Perdis created for Target. The three brown hues vary from taupe to deep chocolate, and each is so wearable I'm afraid I'll exhaust my supply within a month's time! But best of all is the design of the palette. The sleek, lacquered white case opens to reveal shadows emblazoned with large stars -- which, of course, makes this so amazing I don't even want to use it. I just want to stare at it all day long in fascination!

Archipelago Botanicals Sugar Cane & Coconut Hand Wash ($15 at beautyexclusive.com): $15 for a hand wash? Before trying this one, I would have said you were crazy had you told me to plunk down that much money. But trust me when I say that this one is worth it. It smells fantastic -- fresh and clean but not cloying in the slightest -- and it leaves hands feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. Plus, my hands have never felt so soft! I usually pump out ounce after ounce of hand wash, not caring about how much I use, but I'm totally savoring this one to the very last drop.

Sally Hansen Gentle Plumping Lip Treatment in Happy ($8.99 at walgreens.com): A lipgloss for under $10? You know I was all over that. And this one, with its sweet pale pink hue and subtle shimmer, sure doesn't disappoint. I love the slightly futuristic-shaped tube, and the fact that it comes with an attached side mirror. I love that the gloss doesn't make my lips hurt or burn like most other plumping ones do. I love how moisturizing it is, and that it's not at all sticky or tacky. And I love, love, love the color. It's faint, but just enough to make lips look seriously incredible.

An Insider's Look: Hairstylist Ted Gibson

Last week was a notorious one, fellow beauty chicks. I got to spend some valuable time with the one and only Ted Gibson! (Click here for a little gushing on that front.) And in the time we spent together, he let me in on all kinds of interesting secrets -- from how he got started in the hairstyling business to some of his favorite products and fun moments from his career! Keep reading to discover more about the super-fabulous Ted Gibson.

How did you know that you wanted to become a hairstylist?
When I was 21 years old was when I really discovered it. When I was a kid, I kind of wanted to play with hair but my dad wouldn't let me. He was a major in the army, I was a high school athlete -- played football and track and baseball and everything -- and I didn't really know that was what it was going to be for me. A friend of mine was a hairdresser and he said, "You know, you should really think about being a hairdresser." And I thought, really? And he said, "Yeah, you'd be great at it!" And next thing I knew I was in school, and I was doing competitions, and was really good at competitions, and next thing I knew I was living in New York City!

So were you just always playing with people's hair?

I was when I was a kid, but my dad would be really upset about it if I did too much. AndI remember when I told them [my parents] that I wanted to be a hairdresser, they said, "Really?" They're not saying that now!

Since the Bandostick, you've done this whole line. What is your favorite product?
I would say Hair Sheets. It was my first product out of this line that I developed. Because I feel that it's the most innovative. I think that the best form of flattery is when someone knocks you off, and there have been two people that have knocked us off, but I don't think they're as good as mine.

How did you come up with the idea for them?

A friend of mine used Bounce fabric softener on her hair all th
e time to control static. I thought it would be great to come up with some kind of idea where you don't necessarily smell like a laundry detergent. And I said you know, I've never seen a towelette for hair. And I wanted to create something that would have some benefit for the hair and you could carry it around, not have to worry about it, take it through customs, take it wherever you go!

How did you come up with the idea to move into bath and body? What pushed you in that direction?
I always -- which is good and bad! -- I always listen to my girls. And my girls were always telling me how they use Daily Cle
anse and Daily Nourish as a body shampoo and a body conditioner. And I said, "Really? Okay, so you know what, Ted, you should really come out with a body shampoo and a body conditioner!" So that's really the conception of how it came about.

And what kinds of products do you have coming d
own the pipeline?
We have some shine products coming up -- there are four, it's called the Luster series. We also have some other things, dry shampoos and things that are coming out for 2009. And probably a couple more salons.

What are some highlights in your career?
The first time I met Angelina, flying to do the covers of Cosmo and Marie Claire in the same day. Flying to Japan and to the premiere of a movie with Angie. Doing Annie Hathaway -- the first time I met her was in my salon, and we've become really good friends. To Gabrielle Union, I do her in LA and she's so beautiful! And how I feel like we're kind of brother and sister. So I think that these are really incredible highlights in my career, especially since I've been living here [in NYC] for 11 years, I've been in the fashion business for 8 or 9 years.

I love doing fashion shoots, I just did a shoot for Harper's Bazaar on Sunday. I did Lela Rose in the morning -- I had to leave from Lela Rose and go straight to the fashion shoot for Harper's Bazaar, finish that and then go back immediately for a show.

Are there any other shows that you've worked on that have been so amazing?
I would say Lela Rose, definitely. This [Spring 2009 Fashion Week] was my fourth season.

What makes that one so special for you?
She really respects who I am, and I really respect her as who she is. It's a collaborative effort, but she has an idea. It's nice to work with someone that you can really understand what it is that they want, because I know as a hairdresser that's the business that I'm in. That yes, I'm an expert, but I also have to listen to what it is as you, my guest, what it is that I can do to help you feel the best that you can feel about yourself.

It's the same kind of idea with doing a red carpet effort, before the Oscars or the Emmys or the Golden Globes. That you're in this hotel room, it's already high, high, high stress, and with that high stress, being able to know exactly what to do in order to make them feel the best that they can feel. Because pictures the next day with people scrutinizing what you're wearing andyour hair and makeup, that's really hard. So I love being a part of that process and helping them feel good about themselves.

What do you think are the biggest trends for spring?
We're still in it! I still think the bob is really hot. Women love that! And for me as a haircutter, it's fun to do that. Because I've been doing long hair and waves forever and it's gotten a little tiring. So in the salon it's nice to see being able to be a little more creative, and cutting women's hair and putting layers in gradually.

Is there any trend that you think is done?
No, because I think it's about an individual. Like, I don't think girls always buy products from head to toe -- like they buy a Prada jacket mixed with an H&M shirt to Converse sneakers. And I love that, and I think it's really the same thing with hair. That so many things are so evolved that there's not one specific thing.

Like I watched the Rag & Bone show, and I thought it was great, and how it was so androgynous. And I really think that's kind of the way it's gonna go. I love that, and I'm inspired by that. I'm inspired by the 80s, I'm inspired by the 70s, I did Marc Bouwer and we were inspired by the 60s. So I'm inspired by a lot of different elements and the combination of all of them really becomes something spectacular.

Are you constantly walking down the street and getting inspired?
Always! I have my camera with me all the time. Because anything can evoke something. I was thinking about the movie American Beauty, and how he was filming that piece of paper floating around. And it's so true, that it's the beauty in everything.

When you're not doing all your hair stuff -- which is probably not very often! -- what do you do for fun?
I love to work out, I love to bike. I love Facebook! I love being able to play with my dog. I got a car last summer so I love taking it out on Friday afternoon and leaving the city for the weekend, it's kind of nice!

Thank you so much to the fabulous Ted Gibson for granting me this interview. Don't forget to check out his website for some of the best hair products around!
